More Than Just Talk....... If you haven't been in psychotherapy before, you may not realize that the traditional approach to treatment is to educate the client about their conditions and teach them how to change their own feelings and behaviors. Although this approach can be very helpful, it is usually a long process that depends a great deal on the individual's courageous persistence. Moreover, a change in behavior and belief does not necessarily resolve the history of negative experiences fueling such things as depression and anxiety. These are some of the reasons I offer "More Than Just Talk".

I truly believe that all humans seek to be seen, heard, and understood. Life is hard, but no one has to do that alone. As a counselor, I hope to create a safe space where anyone can begin to acknowledge and tell their story. My humanistic approach is foundational to the counseling I provide. Depending on the client and the treatment goals, I will use a variety of theories and techniques. I wholeheartedly believe in positive psychology and love to help others see and seek their fullest potential.

Leadership stress looks like carrying decisions no one else can make, managing competing priorities, absorbing other people's anxiety, and still needing to perform at very high levels. When stress starts affecting judgment, relationships, health, or performance, we help leaders regain perspective, make aligned decisions, and function at a high level without sacrificing themselves in the process.

I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), somatic and mindfulness practice, and solution-focused techniques to help clients build insight, develop healthier coping patterns, process trauma, and create change.
What makes my therapeutic approach unique is my ability to create a space
that feels genuine, grounded, and human. I bring a down-to-earth style to
therapy while remaining deeply rooted in Gestalt principles, helping clients
focus on what is happening in the here and now. I also use Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, and Cognitive Processing Therapy to achieve goals through evidenced-based practices. I believe awareness is a powerful tool for change, and I work collaboratively with clients to increase insight into
patterns, emotions, behaviors, and relationships as they unfold in real time.

Sometimes it is difficult to like ourselves, let alone love who we are. We can be our own harshest critic! Some people use the inner critic as a motivation to succeed in life, but what happens when the inner critic wears you down and it becomes debilitating? I believe there are inner resources and strengths in all of us. Sometimes we just need some guidance to figure out what they are and how to use them to better our lives. With thoughtful consideration to self-compassion and the development of a deeper self-awareness, we can work together to develop a new narrative for your life in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Recent research shows that when you get to immerse in nervous system healing modalities like EMDR and somatic parts work for 90 minutes or even longer, you can have better treatment outcomes.
Does it feel like weekly 60-minute therapy sessions haven't given you enough to live the life you want? Do you find yourself still not showing up in your relationship or your friendships the way that you truly want? Maybe you're aware that your problems are patterns that you've diligently worked to outgrow. But you're finding that now, you can't logic, will, or skill your way through this. Maybe you’re needing help — and a lot of it — right now, and you don’t want to spend months or even years in the traditional weekly model of therapy treatment to feel better.

I aim to go "beyond talk therapy" with The Internal Family Systems method, Gottman Relationship Therapy, somatic, and more.
I believe that you are not broken because you’re not a person that needs to be fixed in the first place. You only needed to be respected and understood. I uphold that a nervous system implies the existence of a loving system. People often think I’m helping them overcome anguish when really I’m helping them experience how to love again despite their pain. Some days we will talk, vibe, and think out loud. Which is great! On other days we will establish what being “done” with therapy looks like and how you want to get there.
My usual clientele include adults, couples, male, female, non-binary, weirdos, normies, lovers, and haters.

I integrate evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and somatic therapy to support both insight and real, lasting change.
My name is Elizabeth Cleary, LPC. I work with adults, often women, who appear capable and put-together on the outside but privately struggle with anxiety, trauma, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion.
You may feel stuck in constant overthinking, questioning yourself, or worrying about how you're coming across to others. Maybe you people-please, over-function, or hold everything in until it becomes too much. Even small interactions leave you emotionally drained. You understand your patterns, yet still feel stuck. Together, we'll work to heal the root causes, build self-trust, and create lasting change, not just temporary relief.

I incorporate art, projective art tools, somatic art directives and experiential mindfulness practices into traditional talk therapy.
My ideal client is someone going through a transition of life. These can include career changes, relationship shifts, unexpected losses, college students, childbirth/parenting stages, spiritual exploration...etc. These major life changes, whether planned or unplanned, can cause a feeling of uncertainty and bring up existential questions of life. Feeling lost, depressed, anxious, feelings of what to do next and you just don't want to feel this way anymore!

Our early life experiences shape our sense of who we are and our feelings of safety in relation to others. When something goes awry, we can struggle to understand who we truly are and what we need. We find maladaptive ways to ease pain, look to others to meet our needs, or isolate ourselves. If you are feeling overwhelmed by life's demands, experiencing adversity, or feeling stuck in old patterns, I would like to help you gain clarity. Through therapy, you can learn to identify and meet your own needs. You can uncover your innate capacity to find meaning and create joy in your life.

You’ve been holding it together on the surface, but each day has been feeling heavier. You’ve been pushing through anxious thoughts and worries that your life isn’t measuring up. It feels like you’ve simply been surviving while showing up for work, school, & family life. You’re not sure what a meaningful life looks like now. You're not alone. You deserve a nonjudgmental space to reconnect with what matters & define what it means to be authentically, meaningfully you.
I’ve worked with individuals who have specific goals as well as those who are uncertain about what is wrong, but know that the way they feel is no longer serving them

This type of trauma dysregulates the nervous system and must be approached with both somatic and cognitive techniques.
Will I ever be good enough? Maybe I AM the crazy one? Am I really in an abusive relationship? It's not really that bad, is it?... Have you had these thoughts? Are you anxious, depressed, a chronic people pleaser? Have your "loved ones" blamed you for "everything that is wrong"? Do you hate the way they treat you, but a few good memories make you feel guilty for having those thoughts (cognitive dissonance)? This is all normal if you have experienced narcissistic abuse by a romantic partner or emotionally immature parents. This is where I come in- healing is possible. You deserve it and I'm dedicated to helping you achieve it!

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
