I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) as a starting point with these issues.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps clients develop acceptance of symptoms while pursuing life goals. Ecotherapy helps clients reestablish innate connections with nature and thereby offers a wider perspective for understanding and resolving problems. Three Stage Trauma Therapy is specifically designed to help clients find safety, process traumatic memories, and reconnect with the world.

07/20/26 - Dylan has no current openings. - I strive to make therapy as collaborative as possible. My work is informed by a person-centered, warm, and authentic approach, but I try to flexibly meet the needs of clients with a range of concerns. I tend to focus on fostering meaning and discovering one's genuine self, so those who are highly insightful or want to improve their insight tend to enjoy my approach most. I help clients reflect on past/present experiences and relationships to foster a deeper understanding of how their concerns arose and how to fundamentally improve, not just temporarily manage, their lives.

Life can feel stagnant and heavy, as if daily challenges are becoming too much to carry. Sometimes what’s needed is support and relief from the overwhelm; other times, it’s the readiness to face deeper pain and long-held trauma. With constant change and difficult decisions, it can seem like everything is working against you. In those moments, having a safe, nonjudgmental space matters—a place where your experiences are respected, and where you can recognize your need for change and feel empowered to shape your own path forward.

I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT).
You long to feel confident in your worth and at peace in your relationships. Maybe anxiety, your self-esteem, or unclear boundaries have left you feeling unseen, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted. You give so much to others while quietly carrying a heavy load. You want relief, clarity, and healthier connections. In therapy, we'll create a supportive space to gently untangle these patterns, and help you build a more grounded, fulfilling life.

Life burning down around you? Cool, grab a seat. Cry, laugh, drop a few F-bombs. Welcome to therapy! You’re safe here. I’m a therapist a professor, and a real human who’s lived through real things. I don’t do this work from a distance. I’ve moved through anxiety and depression. I’ve grieved the loss of people I love. I’ve gone through divorce. I’m raising a child with special needs… and all of that shapes how I show up for you. In my therapy space, we slow down. We breathe. We talk honestly. We laugh sometimes. We grieve sometimes. And we make room for the parts of you that you’ve had to hide to survive.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
