Just because you carry it well, doesn't mean it isn't heavy. You deserve more than just being seen. The world is a scary and ever-changing place. Dealing with uncertainty, transition, and challenges puts stress on relationships, and on personal values. Curiosity, mindfulness, and a dialectical approach makes it possible to find meaning, and even pleasure, in some of the most bleak situations, with the right support.

I utilize evidence-based treatments including, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and incorporate parts work.
When we go through trauma or significant struggles, it impacts how we perceive the world and ourselves. We may end up talking negatively to ourselves or ruminating on intrusive thoughts. These thoughts can lead us to feel many emotions; such as, anxiety, depression, and shame. We may find ourselves using unhealthy coping skills to deal with life's stressors. Overtime, this can become mentally exhausting. I can work with you to understand these thought patterns & identify healthy coping skills. We can work together to find ways to make life more fulfilling and I can help you uncover your inner resilience.

I have specialized training in theoretical orientations such as Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Therapies.
Employed in the field of social and mental health services for 30 years. Working in a variety of settings has offered me the opportunity to understand human behavior and in general what makes people tick. This may sound odd to the lay person but my vast working experiences in places like foster care, drug and alcohol, mobile mental health services to children in their own home has truly prepared me to get a really good sense of how to get to the root of the problem and provide the necessary support to clients not strictly coming from an academic viewpoint.

When human beings experience distress or severe life stressors, it is not unusual for their lives to unravel. My significant desire is creating therapeutic interventions to individuals who have been through a traumatic/stressful experience. I help my clients, who include children, adults, and families, to find healthy visions of themselves and aid their relationships. I know that no single method is the right one for every individual, and so I have experience in a range of modalities including TF-CBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing.

You may have considered finding a therapist for a while, wondering whether it's worth the risk. Are you struggling with physical symptoms, feelings or behaviors you don't particularly like, but can't seem to control? Have you found it difficult to make changes in your life, although you have tried many times on your own? Are you dissatisfied with how your relationships are going? Perhaps you wish you could be a more effective parent? Or maybe you already know there is "stuff" you haven't wanted to touch on your own, but it's not going away......., and you are ready to invest in healing whatever hurts? Then therapy can help.

Calling all creative souls! I love working with teens and young adults during those tricky "coming of age" years. The silent struggle is so real - no one seems to understand! What you want is more of the fun and playful parts of life, but instead it feels like your inner critic is stuck on repeat. And the idea of dealing with it, hitting pause, or changing directions sounds nice except you have no clue where to start!

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
