Counseling gives you an opportunity to explore barriers and potential possibilities and gain insight that could benefit how you move forward. I work with you to establish these barriers and learn tools and ways to overcome them. My hope through counseling is to build your toolbox so you can be successful in creating a life you love and deserve.

As a child, adolescent, and adult therapist, I customize treatment to clients of all ages and all walks of life. The art and science of counseling is one of listening, reflecting, teaching, and learning. It is a process of co-creation where individual differences and unique challenges to the human experience are valued. You will find my twenty years of experience as a therapist useful in assisting you to move through such experiences as family transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and other issues. I seek to help you find resolution to challenges your are facing in your life.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with training from the University of Washington School of Medicine and Utah State University. I offer individual, couples, and family psychotherapy for issues related to depression, anxiety, health concerns, grief, and/or adjustment difficulties due to life changes. I have worked with many successful professionals who require the services of a highly trained doctoral level provider.

Hello and welcome! My work is focused on helping clients strengthen any number of dimensions in their relationships, including emotional connection, safety and intimacy, communication, conflict resolution, self- and other-confidence, trust building and repair from infidelity. I am trained in systems theory, which means I approach therapeutic work through the context of your relational systems, interactions, and feedback loops that create and perpetuate the problems, patterns, and behaviors clients are seeking to resolve. This often translates to facilitating change within the system in contrast to only within the individual.

I see psychotherapy as a way to more fully empower and express one’s self in the world, whether as a child, teen, or adult, and, in the process, heal the various “symptoms” that stand in the way. It’s my belief and experience that that sense of self is, by nature, strong, clear, and caring, and yet can become problematic, in feelings and behavior, through the difficult experiences that life can bring. I see my role as helping to bring forth the experience of this successful and caring self, and, specifically to assist the client to heal the problematic traumas, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, that interfere with this.

As an LMFT serving Bainbridge Island, I utilize a humanistic, evidence-based, emotionally focused perspective with children, youth, and adults with concerns including anxiety, depression, attachment, trauma, self-harm, identity, and gender questioning issues. I find Lifespan Integration and Somatic Transformation helpful in resolving trauma. I treat couples and families working through conflict, life transitions, divorce, grief, and loss. Additionally, I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and a Washington State Supervisor offering supervision to associates.

Clients who work with me feel empowered and reassured on their first visit, and they continue with me, because they notice changes happening. For the past 20 years, I've worked in private and group practices, providing counseling and other services to people from many different walks of life. I help people re-evaluate, become closer to a loved one, process difficult decisions or transitions and grieve significant losses. I enjoy helping people become more truthful about themselves and live with integrity. I fiercely protect the privacy and confidentiality of my clients and provide a private, safe setting for our work together.

Or, if you are a member of a couple or family having difficulties, I will offer support and teach communication skills, which can deepen and enhance those relationships closest to you. It is often difficult to identify our stuck places and painful patterns. I have found that talking things through with someone with sound professional training and experience can offer new perspectives and life possibilities, allowing change to happen!

I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients have had difficult childhoods and are curious how therapy can help to reduce their suffering, heal from past traumas, and learn healthier ways of attachment. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

I have experience working with couples, families and individuals of all ages from a variety of cultures/ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and religious beliefs, as well as LGBTQIA+. My approach is integrated, operating from a systems theory background, with a lens that is relational and informed by awareness of how societal factors impact experience. Working as a certified chemical dependency counselor, I address not only the individual substance user, but the impact of use on loved ones. I see change happening through shifts from a person seeing themselves as the problem to seeing themselves as a person up against a problem.

For 28 years, I've worked with clients to support healing around trauma, marriage/partnering, sexuality, grief, depression/anxiety, addictions. Using Somatic Experiencing, family of origin, meditation/movement work, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Internal Family Systems, I work with clients to help them develop a deeper sense of self, to face life's inevitable challenges with clarity and resources. Clients can repair their marriages/partnerships. Emphasized is the capacity to stay emotionally present, to attune, differentiate, have healthy boundaries, practice dual awareness and have clarity about attachment issues.

They underlie our feelings of depression, anxiety, insecurity, and rage; our unhealthy patterns including addictions, eating disorders and insomnia; and the toxic, repetitive dynamics that keep playing out in our closest relationships, despite our best intentions. These wounds also compromise our motivation to move forward in our lives, and our ability to focus our attention, to make healthy decisions and to respond appropriately to what's happening around us.
