After having worked as a school counselor at the grade school level for nine years, and at the high school level for fifteen, I transitioned to working with adults in a clinical setting, twelve years ago. I have experience in meeting with people to work through relationship issues, process emotions, and learn new tools for dealing with anxiety, depression, and stress.

The Gottman Method is an integrative approach to couple therapy based on over 40 years of research. As a Certified Gottman therapist, I work with couples experiencing communication issues, trouble dealing with conflict and personality differences, infidelity, differing parenting styles, intimacy and closeness. After a thorough assessment of your relationship, we will establish goals, and begin to develop a plan to gain skills that will help begin to heal the issues that can sometimes feel difficult to navigate on your own.

Hello, I'm Sandra Becker-Warden. I have provided counseling as a clinical social worker for over 30 years. My practice, Family Life Consultants, Inc. offers services in two locations and their respective surrounding areas; Collinsville, IL, and Lake Ozark, MO. I particularly enjoy working with families and couples, I also specialize in custody mediation, body image issues and eating disorders Ages include toddlers through seniors. I believe in involving the individual's support system in the treatment process - ie. family, school, work, when appropriate. This approach allows the support systems to realize their part in the individual's emotional health.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with fifteen years of clinical experience. I completed my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and my Master's degree in Social Work, with an emphasis in Family Systems Theory, at Saint Louis University. I understand that clients are the experts of their own lives and join with clients to determine treatment goals. I work throughout the time we have together focusing on helping those I serve achieve emotional balance.

Stuff happens that affects our thoughts, emotions and behaviors. I believe your mind works fine. But a facet of your mind is causing you to respond or feel in ways that make life more difficult than it should be. This ongoing emotional distress or pain is not helping you be more effective in your life. Consequently, I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and obtained a dual masters from Lindenwood University in both Clinical and School counseling. My expertise include depression, self-esteem, grief, anxiety, separation anxiety, children, adolescents, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD parenting and family issues. I am also a Certified First Responder Counselor.

In more than two decades in the field of mental health, I have served as a crisis counselor, clinical supervisor of a substance abuse program, an ER social worker, a forensic social worker - and currently as a clinical therapist. In addition, I have more than a decade of experience as an adjunct professor teaching Psychology, Sociology, Social Diversity and Marriage & Family. I believe this has given me a unique insight into the many issues that people struggle with - and an ability to help from a variety of perspectives.

I have been coming alongside individuals and families to provide understanding and motivation. I believe we are capable of finding peace emotionally and spiritually. I like using nature and activities in counseling along with art to help process our stories. We use metaphors in adventure therapy and interactive games in play therapy to grow in new ways. I have experience also as a coach, teacher, and youth leader. We have raised 2 children and had a foster son. I supervise Cathy who is a PLPC/CIT2 and enjoys working with women/teens. We all are skilled in interpersonal process therapy.
