I love being able to help others through the rough patches in their lives, the terrible experiences we may have no control over, and adjusting to life transitions and periods of change. My goal is to provide encouragement towards your life goals and better overall mental wellness and self love. I have done extensive work in the area of anxiety and depressive disorders, relapse prevention, and trauma. I also work with those who are seeking perinatal and postpartum support. Having a child can be a joyous but difficult time. I strive to help those through this major time of adjustment.

When you’re walking through the woods and you cross paths with a bear, you expect a rush of adrenaline to warn your brain of the danger. You expect your body to fight back, to run away, or sometimes you freeze right in your tracks. This is your body’s natural chemical response to danger. But what happens when the “bear” is a loved one? What happens when you see the “bear” at the grocery store? What happens when a smell or a sound takes you back to a memory that feels like it’s happening right now? Maybe you know what triggers this response in you. Maybe you have had so many encounters with “bears” in your life that you feel numb.

As far as most people know, you've got everything going for you.  Loved ones can count on you. You're intuitive, can pick up on the needs of others, and the one who can be "all things to all people." Maybe you're the teacher, nurse, therapist, college student, or mother that seems to have it all together.  Inside though, you're starting to wonder if you even know who you are.  You might even look at your life and find yourself asking "Is this all there is?' Or just feeling a varying combination of exhausted/anxious/burned out/empty/bored. Something feels missing or off, and it's unsettling.

My goal as a therapist is to help clients who are having difficulty in our fast-paced environment dealing with life’s stressors related to marriages/partnerships, families, friendships, social isolation, employment and finances. I provide a safe place where clients know they can share in a confidential environment without judgment. All of us have negative thoughts. Realizing that we are more than our thoughts, though, can be truly liberating and allow a person to live a full and meaningful life, even when faced with struggles that may seem impossible to overcome.

I work to create a whole-brain and body approach to healing for each individual client. I promote seeking balance in life and advocate to help people feel emotionally and mentally empowered. I also take a trauma-informed approach in helping others better understand themselves, their behavior and how this has impacted their life. It is important to me to meet people where they are in seeking change and healing, because I believe this allows people to experience the power of freedom and choice in improving the overall quality of their life.

Everyone deserves a chance to sit in a space of love, allowing for the best version of ones self regardless of life experience. In our own way, we all go through times where we need to be understood, authentically cared about, and supported in a non judgmental way. We do not need to sit in darkness alone. It is valuable to empower ourselves with the support and healing required to live a meaningful, happy existence. Positive lifestyle change can be attained whether its through hiking, yoga, or counseling.

Thank you for taking this step toward healing and growth. I hope the information below gives you a sense of who I am as a person and a psychologist, and what I envision therapy to be. What is therapy? Therapy is about connecting. Connecting with your therapist opens pathways to better relating with intersecting aspects of yourself which include but are not limited to thoughts, feelings, body sensations, values, personal and social identities, etc. The therapy progress is forever evolving as you continue to learn more about yourself, the contexts that you are living in, and how to better manage struggles and challenges in life.

Are you feeling uncomfortable in your own skin? Can't calm down? Can't move forward? It is important to focus not only on mental health, but to experience ourselves as a whole person. Our minds and bodies have stories to tell, and unique ways of healing. All parts of us play significant roles, including physical, emotional, cognitive elements. The connection between our mind and body is so powerful, and where a great deal of disruption can occur in our nervous systems. Our bodies know what to do to heal us, mentally and physically, when we are able to allow space for our nervous system to complete its process and regulate.

Born and raise in North Central West Virginia, I strive to bring health and healing to my home state! Mental health in West Virginia is sometimes lacking the human component. We get wrapped up in the “diagnosis” and forget the human part of life. Therapy can be a daunting journey to begin, however engaging in therapeutic interventions can be life changing. My goal as a therapist is to meet you where you are, empower you to grow, and help you do more of what makes you happy. Life can be hard to navigate and process. Having supports in those times is important.

Most people are Inherently "good," try to act this way, and don't know why this does not result in success, happiness. We will work to learn what interferes: Learning, health, life-stages, guilt, genetics, self-sabotage, traumas. You will make changes to free yourself from the past, so that future choices DO result in success, joy, peace. Since toddlers, we seek to be accepted, be useful; aware of this, you can meet your goals. Seeking help is bravely taking a risk, causing many to be initially anxious; we'll work at your pace.
