I also treat anxiety, depression, life transitions and/ or adjustments, PTSD, marital difficulties, parenting issues, and chronic health problems.
I believe that the first step to healing and growth is in our admission that we need help. Asking for help is not always easy when trust may have been violated or when society tells us to be strong and hold it together when the storms of life occur. When this happens, we tend to feel alone in our emotional pain and suffering, thinking and believing that no one understands what we are going through. We all need a safe place to uncoil, work through our difficulties and feel good about ourselves and our relationships with others.

I treat adults, couples and families learning to cope with marital issues, emotional transitions, addictions, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety and stage of life concerns.
When you are moving in the right direction, the Universe cooperates. Most of us have set set goals or developed expectations for how we want to live our lives, but sometimes we get stuck along the way. We tend to think that we can sort out these complications on our own or by talking to a close friend. Therapy is an opportunity to tell your story to a professional asking the right questions, providing unbiased perspectives, or shining light on a dark place. I encourage clients to focus on the issues keeping them from experiencing contentment and satisfaction in life.

My trainings and education have given me the ability to provide therapy for marriage, couples, families, and individuals with trauma (EMDR), anxiety, depression, grief/loss, adjustment/life transition, and more.
I believe trust and belonging are the basic needs of individuals. How one learns to love and be loved tells a lot about who we are as people and how our relationships develop. I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families, thereby hoping to provide change to the system, and not just the individual.

I specialize in Family Life; realtionships- marriage and divorce, childbearing years, parenting, teenagers.
Is it time to dive int the most tender places in yourself, your family, your world? Want to make way for peace inside and out and find your own definition of success? Want to stop participating in the madness and become part of the change that's needed in these times? Do you sometimes wonder if your anxiety, depression, fear, griefs are all yours? Maybe I can help. I believe we are all a bit crazy and that most of what ails us is the result of being part of a collectively crazy culture and a dying paradigm of consumer culture, patriarchy and war. There is still beauty, possibility and hope-I can help you remember this.

With a master's degree in clinical psychology with a specialization in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University, I work with individuals and couples.
After spending twenty years in the business world and helping to raise three children, I transitioned into a career as a mental health counselor. This change has been incredibly fulfilling for me; I relish assisting individuals who are dealing with a range of challenges, from depression, to the effects of trauma, to lacking a sense of purpose in their lives.

That means I view individuals as healthy; they simply may be part of a system ( marriage, family, workplace, social group) that is somehow out of balance.
Thinking about writing this profile, I wanted to make it simple........I'm an old-fashioned therapist with great boundaries and carefully-monitored ethics. Then I thought you might want to know more about me and my style of therapy! I bring warmth, sometimes humor, to our work together. I'm a good listener......I won't fall asleep or interrupt to discuss my own agenda. I won't tell you to divorce your spouse or to stop compulsively overeating. I will help you find your own solutions and offer support as you take, sometimes very challenging, steps towards healing.

My 43 year old marriage is juicy and delightful.
Hi, my name is Nando and I specialize in helping people have emotionally open and compassionate relationships both with themselves and others - welcome to my practice. I work with both individuals and couples. So much of life satisfaction and personal effectiveness is based on how well you understand yourself (mindfulness), how you treat yourself (compassion), and how you advocate for your desires. With others, relationships are built through mutually respectful listening and co-creating mutually delightful interactions. I see relationship as a spiritual path.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
