It is a process that helps people identify where they have built a life apart from God and that calls them to authentic relationship with Him and with others.
Grace Clinic views counseling as a healing relationship--one where we enter deeply into the lives of those in pain and crisis to bring them to a place where they can love God, others, and themselves. After all, most lasting wounds come through relationships. We believe lasting healing does too.

As a licensed psychologist and Jungian analyst, I gently proceed at your pace as we explore what is happening in your life--experiences and your feelings about them-- in search of meaning and the potential for the transformation of depression, anxiety, and relationships.
Jungian analysis focuses on complexes, patterns, relationships, and the development of the personality. The client begins each session. Sometimes Jungian analysts work with the unconscious--dreams, images, art work, or sand play. At other times Jungian analysts work with conscious material-- behaviors, stories, or communication styles. Always the work is focused on becoming your authentic self.

I am a couples counselor.
Excited. Persistent. Results oriented and good sense of humor. That's me! You’re not alone when you say, “I really don’t want to get out of bed today, just a little while longer,” as you pull the covers over your head. Today feels gray, you feel overwhelmed, even numb and the nagging “duties” of the day pull at your attention, one after another. You want to scream and hide under a rock to make it all go away for a minute, but you open your eyes to see the list of “should’s” just get longer. And worse yet, you feel alone in all of it.

My ideal client will be eager to imagine and work toward positive goals, what they hope to accomplish in life. Because I am an interactive therapist, I always hope for open-mindedness to the ideas that I bring to appointments. Because I customize my efforts to each unique individual, it is helpful to know about how one's life has unfolded and the preferences that one brings to therapy. Because I don't make decisions or set goals for my patients, I hope they will have the courage and autonomy to decide for themselves. While I am the expert on human nature, I hope my patients will be the expert about themselves.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
