Using trauma-informed & liberation-focused somatic, parts work, brainspotting, and ecospiritual expressive arts therapy, we will focus on creating practices of grounding and resourcing, building reciprocal relationships, practicing boundaries, healing through trauma, resourcing through oppression, and integrating you within mutually affirming community.
As an LGBTQIA empath, intuitive, or artist, you experience this world in a deeper, more complex, intuitive way - including painful experiences of trauma. With so much pain in the world, it's hard to care for your own feelings and needs, let alone heal from your experiences of trauma. I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA empaths, artists, and magic makers to heal from the trauma of oppression, abuse, and sexual violence and reclaim their power. To embrace their own sacred needs and gifts. And to connect with the power of QT ancestors and community, ecospirituality, creativity, joy, and nourished aliveness and activism.

Whether in relation to managing general life stressors, family or relationship problems, addiction, mood or anxiety disturbance, sexually-related challenges, or employment issues, I conceptualize my role as supporting clients to identify, then enact the choices most likely to produce the changes they desire.
In addition to my general clinical work, as a psychologist specializing in forensic matters for over twenty years I have a breadth of experience addressing the unique challenges faced by attorneys and law enforcement personnel, as well as other first responders (i.e., firefighters, paramedics, EMTs), nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Do you feel ready to explore and heal what’s getting in the way of you living your most joyful, creative, connected life? Are depression and anxiety keeping you either feeling weighed down, dull, and purposeless, or else on high alert and living from a place of fear and busyness round the clock? Are habitual thought-loops and tensions in the body keeping you in a perpetual state of mistrust, perfectionism/people-pleasing, and/or judgement towards yourself and others?

I treat trauma, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, and emotional pressures.
It is my belief that even though people seem to differ in their inborn ability to handle life's stresses, their resiliency and sense of mastery can be cultivated. My therapeutic approach is to help my clients live a more hopeful and meaningful life. Being the oldest child of a Dutch family of Holocaust survivors, I "learned" how trauma and resiliency gets transmitted from one generation to the next. My fascination of learning how the body keeps the score, my interest in helping people be securely attached and engaged with each other all brought me to this exciting calling.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
