is the prime contributor to change.
Everyone could use support when things don't go as we expect. My main goal is to be the person sitting with you during your highest highs and lowest lows. I have been trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy,
Couples
Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, as well as using Person-Centered Therapy as a modality for individuals.
I enjoy working with people from a variety of backgrounds, sexualities, gender identities, personalities, and cultures. It is important to me to recognize and honor individual identities as they come into the room. For me, safety in therapy to express the parts of ourselves that desire authentic honesty is imperative. I welcome children and their families using Child-Centered Play Therapy to help them express their current struggles and emotions. I would also welcome individuals and
couples
using Person-Centered therapy and Internal Family Systems using Restoration Therapy as a foundation.

I'm here to support you in finding your way, whether that means finding your own authentic path forward or your own authentic way of being, individually or in
relationship
with others.
I am, first and foremost, interested in working with people as people, not as their diagnoses. As a fellow human and collaborative therapist I'm interested in meeting my clients where they're at with whatever they are facing. I also believe that the way we see the world and our selves is deeply rooted in our past and present relationships, and thus have a focus on relationally-focused therapy with individuals, partners, and parents.

I specialize in helping to manage and overcome self-defeating behaviors,
relationship
problems, depression, and anxiety.
Whether life is going well or you are struggling to feel well, therapy could be a helpful and powerful tool in moving forward. Finding the right therapist, however, could be overwhelming. With investments of energy, time, and money, it is important to select a therapist with whom you feel comfortable—someone that "gets" you and in whom you have trust and confidence. I enjoy helping adults understand their barriers and strengths to help them meet their goals in the various aspects of their lives, such as relationships, work, school, and health.

I want to share that I put a lot of value in the therapeutic
relationship
.
My hope for therapy, and our time together, is that you can start to become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, behaviors and beliefs. By doing this you will start the process of empowering yourself towards a whole healthy person. We will spend time together examining each of these categories in a way that will give you a new outlook on life. I also believe balance in life is needed, and often times we lose this balance. Together we can explore ways to regain sense of self and establish balance.

What we know from the research on successful therapy is that it is the
relationship
between client and therapist that is most important, followed by client motivation to change. Since you are reading this you are motivated to change something. Will my style fit you? Seeking counseling is a brave step and shows you are already taking action to explore changes in your life. I’m excited for you to start this process and am here to provide support and compassion along your journey. You are capable of moving mountains but know that you do not need to do it alone. Humans are excellent at finding ways to temporarily avoid painful feelings by hiding them from ourselves and others, soothing discomfort with distractions, work, denial, substance use, pursuit of pleasure, and many other strategies. Long term avoidance is not only ineffective but often creates increasingly severe emotional pain and

The therapist/client
relationship
is an intimate one, and we must keep it real in order for it to be effective.
I am a Licensed Teacher turned Licensed Therapist who specializes in counseling individuals who are ready to embrace a strong sense of self in order and clarify their values in order to improve their relationships. This is a process that must occur prior to increasing the emotional bond with others and includes identifying what you want, articulating what you want and need, taking ownership for your contribution to the problem, and increasing the capacity to accept and tolerate differences. I also facilitate and support clients through divorce.

What was once an exciting and vibrant
relationship
has become stale and unfulfilling. You may feel like you don't know who your
partner
is anymore. Or who you are, for that matter. You aren't sure you're meeting your
partner
's needs, and you certainly aren't feeling as though they are meeting yours. You are probably wondering if it's possible for the two of you to ever be happy again. But you aren't ready to give up just yet.

It happened again, last night. You and your
partner
got into a big fight over something so small, you can’t even remember how it started. How did it get so big, so fast? You don’t know how to make it clear that you’re listening, you get it. You know you sound harsh, and that you’re defensive. But what else can you do? The past comes up, your character goes on trial, and whatever you say just makes things worse. And saying nothing feels like taking all the blame. You can’t let things go because you’ve done so much of that already. You’re in such a sensitive place that you’re losing hope, and that’s the scariest part.

Specializations include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, mood disorders, marriage counseling,
couples counseling
, pre-marital counseling, overcoming infidelity, and support for life transitions, such retirement, divorce, separation, or recovery from a major illness.
Does life feel like you are going around and around on merry-go-round? Excessive worry, feelings of sadness, loneliness, or dealing with a past trauma can be tough. Work pressures, loss of a loved one, reliving harmful memories can cause stress that affect every aspect of our lives. Arguing constantly with
partner
, dealing with an infidelity, or healing from family conflict are exhausting. Talking through the concerns can help but it’s hard to share deep personal concerns with family or friends. Today's busy world can cause anxiety. Healing and growth happen in an environment that nurtures exploration, growth, and compassion.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
