My psychotherapy approach values you as a whole person, in depth. I relate to each individual as a person rather than a label, and so each person's therapy experience is unique. Those who come to me for therapy bring a wide range of concerns, aims and hopes. I work with people struggling, for example, with
anxiety
, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief, life transitions, spiritual concerns, work concerns, physical illness/pain, search for meaning and purpose, and creativity concerns. I see the difficulties and suffering an individual brings to therapy as an entry point toward healing and growth.

As a women's mental health therapist, I specialize in obesity/binge eating/emotional eating,
anxiety
, depression, chronic illness, mindfulness, and self-love/self-compassion.
You should be so proud of yourself. You finally did it! You overcame your fear and are thinking about reaching out to a therapist. You have made the first step and should give yourself some love for that. Wait...self-love is hard for you? The bully in your head tells you that you will be laughed at, judged, maybe even told you are utterly hopeless. Do you also struggle with self-worth,
anxiety
or depression? What about your relationship with your body? Are you obese, an emotional eater, or binge eater? Do you always put others before yourself? Now this is sounding familiar, I think we should chat!

Clients may be dealing with
anxiety
issues, mild to moderate levels of depression, interpersonal issues, issues related to anger, or unresolved issues with past trauma. I see people between 16-18 years old if it is their choice to seek help, and adults between 18 and 65 years of age, or older if they can pay privately. They are people who want to resolve troubling issues within themselves through increased self-understanding or between themselves and others through increased knowledge and willingness to practice new behavior.

I specialize in work with individuals who experience
Anxiety
Disorders (OCD, General
Anxiety
, Phobias), Depression, Insomnia, Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as those with medical or complex presentations (e.g. depression and diabetes). I believe therapy must involve a human connection and have come to find a good sense of humor is critical to the work done in therapy. Without a strong therapeutic relationship, it is nearly impossible to make progress. However, within the context of a collaborative, supportive environment, CBT tools can be very useful. When CBT tools are not helpful, eccentric evidence-based practices may be.

My goal is to come alongside you during your journey and help you discover ways to cope with what has been going on in your life, and to help you address any unhelpful patterns of thought or behavior that may, at times, get in the way of you achieving your personal goals.

My areas of focus are trauma,
anxiety
, grief, depression, and folks who want to explore improving their quality of life.
You will receive the fastest response back by emailing me. Sometimes seeking support can often feel like an exposing and vulnerable process, yet it doesn't have to be. Unpacking deep-rooted patterns and beliefs takes time, and can happen when we feel safe enough to disclose to others. I value connection and relationship in my practice, and aim to create a space where that processing can truly happen. I assist clients in identifying their patterns and core beliefs, and skills to regulate their emotions while focusing on their goals.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
