Whether there are frequent arguments, a lack of intimacy, adolescent behavior, or parenting issues, there is help available.
There are times when it is difficult to see a way forward, and discovering who we are, where we came from and what has transpired in our lives is vitally important. If you are here, my guess is that you may be grieving a loss, struggling to accept difficult life changes like divorce or separation, or perhaps dealing with anxiety. Whatever the circumstances, it is my desire to see you rediscover happiness and purpose-- I wholeheartedly believe that therapy can help you get there.

As a child or adolescent reaching out to a stranger for counseling can be a big step-even scary at first. Sometimes knowing what to expect can be one of the biggest hurdles to clear. I view the counseling environment as a place where people can bring their problems and their perspective into an environment where they can feel heard. I believe that both children and adolescents bring their own set of unique strengths into counseling. I have found that building off of those strengths is one key to success in working with my clients.

Many of my clients would agree that what they look for in a counselor is someone who "has been there themselves." They look for someone that has the education and experience to successfully assist them. I have that combination of personal experiences and educational background. My goal is to help you feel better, cope with life, and get on the path to a more happy and productive life. I will teach you to identify, solve, and cope with problems. I am Psychedelic's friendly.

It can be difficult to find a therapist who you connect with. If you are looking for a therapist who is willing to work with you through life's highs and lows, listen to you on a deeper level, and work with you through your most difficult moments, I may be the counselor for you. While I am most experienced in working with children, adolescents, and young adults, I have availability for all in my schedule. My self pay rate is $150 for an hour session, though this can be adjusted based on need via sliding scale. Telehealth and in office services are offered.

As parents, we sometimes experience pain when others are negatively judging our children's behaviors. This can occur when our children don't listen to us or get into trouble at school. Such experiences may cause us to doubt our parenting ability, creating a feeling of failure. As a child counselor, I understand that children sometimes "act up" during difficult life transitions, like a divorce, parental incarceration, foster care, financial stress, moving to a new home, school, or the loss of a loved one. If you and/or your child need help, please don't wait any longer, now is the time to start working towards your goal!

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
