As a certified public health professional, my approach is unique in that it is informed personally by my engagement with the recovery community, academically by my background in public health, and professionally by my experience working with active duty military to treat
trauma
, loss, and addiction.
I work with clients seeking meaningful change. To recover authenticity, connection, and purpose back into life's experience. We work together to manage the impact of past events. More importantly, we find ways to transcend them in the present, building on character strengths to find life balance. Since working with my first client, my clinical approach has evolved to focus more on the mind-body connection. This dual approach is known as Somatic (experiential) therapy, and can often be more engaging than traditional talk therapy alone. Your recovery should be a highly individualized experience. I am dedicated to helping people process and heal from
trauma
of all varieties; and as an Army Veteran I appreciate working with other Veterans in this capacity as well.
My goal is to foster a collaborative and supportive environment in order to help my clients identify barriers to happiness and fulfillment in their lives, and then work together to set achievable goals to overcome those barriers. Every person is unique, and focusing on understanding each person for who they are as a complex and multifaceted beings with their own biological, psychological, social, and economic stressors is fundamental to the therapeutic process. I value working with diverse populations, ensuring equitable access of care to all, and have a strong interest in social justice matters.

I've been working in the field of Social Work for over 22 years focusing on multi-generational
trauma
in Communities of Color and providing culturally responsive treatment in the healing process.
For some of us life can bring some pretty significant challenges, stressors or transitions that just have "you stuck" in unproductive patterns in relationships, work, school or just life in general. You yearn for release-freedom from these unproductive repetitions; but where to turn? It takes courage to seek help and the task of finding the right person can be overwhelming. The thought of talking to someone who does not understand your cultural lens makes therapy seem "hardly worth the effort". UNFORTUNATELY NO LONGER EXCEPTING CLIENTS AT THIS TIME.

Trauma
comes in many forms. It can be from childhood abuse, car accidents, toxic work environment, toxic relationship, racial injustice, war, rape, bullying, natural and manmade disasters like wildfires and earthquakes. You may have the symptoms of
PTSD
but not have explicit memories of the traumatizing experience. EMDR walks you through a series of steps to help decrease the symptoms of
PTSD
(nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, insomnia, avoidance and hopelessness about the future). It also helps to map out a plan to deal with future triggers and gives a renewed and positive belief system about the self. I offer a free consultation.

I see individuals who are experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, body image issues, relational distress, spiritual issues, grief/loss, and eating disorders. Many of my clients are trying to cope with the effects of
trauma
in their life in addition to feelings of insecurity, perfectionism, self-hatred or shame. If any of this sounds like you, I want you to know that you are not alone and counseling can help. It takes great courage to seek counseling, and I can help you develop insight into yourself, learn new tools for coping, find your voice, and seek healing from your past.

trauma and PTSD
and help couples find deep connection and resolve conflict through an attachment-based approach.
I support my clients in weathering life's storms and in discovering the goodness and tenderness that we all possess inside ourselves. I work from a mindfulness-based practice of "being with what is," while teaching clients how to utilize their body as an ally in their healing journey. As a Certified Hakomi Therapist and PACT trained couple therapist I provide counseling for individuals, couples and adult clients and their parents. My approach to counseling is experiential, emotionally focused, somatic, and person-centered. I utilize somatic ways of working with
trauma
and attachment issues.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space where
trauma
, uncertainty, and other challenges can be explored, and where paths to healing and resolution can be discovered.
I believe that personal healing, growth, and insight are informed by an individual’s relationship to meaning, values, death anxiety, freedom, and responsibility. My approach is existential and humanistic, working with clients collaboratively to individualize therapy, integrating a variety of interventions including narrative and cognitive-behavioral methods, and mindfulness practices. I specialize in working with bipolar disorders, depression, anxiety, and
trauma
. My experience includes work with grief and bereavement, personality disorders, ADHD, substance use, and interpersonal relationships.

My name is Grace, and I am a white queer woman who works with teens and young adults to support them in learning about themselves and healing from past
trauma
. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA folks and anyone exploring their identity; as well as people of color, disabled folks, and others who face intersecting forms of oppression. My practice is rooted in social justice and anti-racism, and a belief that systemic oppression directly affects our mental health. In our work together, we’ll explore the ways in which systems of power and societal expectations interfere with our right to authenticity and wholeness.

I have training in working with people impacted by:
trauma and PTSD
, critical voices, and stuck patterns.
Many of us have been taught that who we are is not okay. Because of this we lose touch with important parts of ourselves. This can lead to feeling overwhelmed or isolated. Counseling is the process of shedding light on these unexplored areas and regaining connection to ourselves and others. Often this process can be emotional. "Anytime you're gonna grow, you're gonna lose something. You're losing what you're hanging onto to keep safe. You're losing habits that you're comfortable with, you're losing familiarity," James Hillman.

Having worked with many people from a wide variety of life experiences and backgrounds I've developed particular capabilities in childhood
trauma
, mood disorders, non-traditional gender identities and sexual/affection orientations as well as chronic pain.
A comfortable alliance with a skilled therapist can help you to bring greater awareness and agency to choices you make. Perhaps fulfillment comes from having looked into yourself with curiosity, compassion and support. Bringing yourself forward in your own way and expressing yourself can be challenging in many ways... cultural, political and social inequities, childhood injuries, confusing relationships, difficulties that began with your ancestors, stressful current circumstances. Sometimes being present in yourself as well as in the world with compassion is the most poignant challenge of all. License in OR & CA

I work with clients to develop their strengths into powerful tools. I provide individual therapy and counseling sessions to individuals aged 18 and older. I am Level 1 trained in Internal Family Systems, a modality that can be effectively applied to most individuals' experiences and struggles - anxiety, depression,
trauma
, shame, and more.
Welcome! Are you struggling to understand yourself... why you feel, say, think, and do the things that you do? Perhaps your anger persists, even though you have tried to forgive and forget. Perhaps your fears remain, even though you tell yourself they aren't rational. Perhaps you push others away, even though you want connection. Together we can help demystify those things, providing you more clarity and an improved relationship with yourself. When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
