Together we will journey through the intricacies of your experience in order to gain insight and awareness. Armed with these two tools we can then move forward in the uncovering of your true self and life path. Within this process, wounds will be explored and cared for, giving you more space for what it is that you want in life!

We all get stuck sometimes; and we suffer. Life often feels messy and chaotic, and in the midst of "the daily grind" we experience ourselves as unbalanced, fragmented, and "all over the place." Life is perpetually full of transition and change; and our habituated ways of being in the world are often at odds with the ebb and flow of life's events, and we experience stress , conflict and pain. Despite our resources, strategies and efforts to cope with challenges, we often get stuck; and end up feeling dissatisfied with ourselves, disenchanted with others, and disconnected from life, vitality, joy.

I’m similar to the clients I work with in a lot of ways. Before becoming a psychologist, I held numerous jobs as a warehouse worker, a cook, a salesman, a teacher, and a nurse. I began working in mental health in the 1983 first as an assistant for hospitalized persons suffering with mental illness. I then became a psychiatric nurse where I helped clients with their medications the psychiatrist prescribed them. For the last 24 years I have provided psychotherapy to hundreds of clients. I think my long time working as a therapist and my down to earth nature is what makes me different.

My groups have openings (below). Would you like to free yourself from patterns that lead to stress , conflict, and/or withdrawal from life? Are you feeling reactive or shut down in dealing with anger, fear, and/or sadness? Are you dissatisfied with life and do not know why? Having the courage to admit that things are not going well is the first step to changing them. My mindfulness-based approach supports you in being less identified with habitual ways of thinking and feeling that can keep you stuck in patterns that no longer work. I have helped many clients learn to be less reactive and more compassionate with themselves and others

Therapy for outdoor enthusiasts. People I work with feel a strong bond with nature, have an active, adventurous lifestyle, and find time in the outdoors fulfilling and healing. They want to improve their sense of well-being and live a balanced life within their personal values, relationships and responsibilities. I work with young adults in college and professionals established in their careers. They are high-achieving, seeking to manage significant stress and responsibilities, and still make time for the activities they enjoy. Many people I work with experienced childhood stressors, such as abuse or neglect.

I’ve made my work helping individuals navigate how to connect and reclaim parts of themselves they may have thought were lost to anxiety, stress , low motivation, depression, chronic pain, or anger and resentment. We are all human and none of us choose hardship, and yet we still experience it. Distress and pain are part of the human experience. It’s what we do with these experiences that is important. I work with my clients to help them find their way through life’s obstacles and make change that is consistent with their values – what really matters to them.

Her focus is on empowering adult individuals (18+) to cultivate coping skills, adjust to life stressors, depression, anxiety, and recovery from acute traumas and traumatic stress .
I hope you will find a welcome, safe place for healing and growth as we work together. Therapy sessions with me often include techniques from Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness techniques, or Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). This means that, unlike traditional talk therapy, I often integrate interventions using back-and-forth eye movements to promote resolution from upsetting experiences using ART or EMDR. These approaches are different than hypnosis and are supported by positive outcomes in research studies as well as in my clinical experience.

I utilize EMDR, internal family systems, mindfulness, somatic approaches, reiki, and yoga to assist clients in learning to listen to their intuition so they know how to use the tools I teach to feel grounded, calm, and capable, and heal from stress and trauma.
As a therapist, I will be fully present, listening and responding to you in a curious, compassionate, and nonjudgmental manner. I understand the current neuroscience research on the impact of attachment trauma, childhood trauma, and life stressors on the body and mind. I will help you develop self-awareness so you can bring unconscious beliefs and patterns into consciousness. This will help you develop insights into all parts of yourself, as well as help you develop somatic and mindfulness tools to live in the present moment more fully. I will help you heal what no longer serves you so you can have more agency and authenticity.

How can I find a therapist in Portland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
