I draw upon interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and positive psychology -based approaches in my work and strive to be warm, authentic, collaborative, interactive, and empowering in my sessions. On a personal note, I was drawn to working in this field through my own experience with fertility challenges and became a mother myself through egg donation. I am a Pacific NW native and, in my spare time, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, gardening, travel, and spending time with my family including my dogs Maisy and Riley.

My approach has been strongly influenced by the field of positive psychology and solution focused therapy.
Welcome! I help individuals, couples and families navigate difficult times, explore and integrate past traumas and become aware of unhelpful thought patterns and habits. My goal is to assist you in becoming your best self. The approach we take will be based on your unique needs and concerns. If anxiety and depression are at the forefront, we will tackle these issues by exploring thought patterns, habits and life stressors. If you are feeling lost or stuck, we will identify personal values and brainstorm long and short-term goals. Always, I will bring an open-minded perspective to the relationship.

I work through the lenses of existentialism, positive psychology and a client centered approach to cater our time to you.
You want to dig deeper into yourself and understand all the parts of yourself more clearly and intimately. You have the sense that there is something deeper and mysterious going on in you or in the world around you. And you believe there is definitely more fulfillment, peace and ease that you just cannot seem to access in your life. This sense of missing something is common among the clients I work with, and is largely due to the disconnect we all experience between our conscious self and our subconscious mind. Making the subconscious conscious is possible and brings relief, direction and a clearer sense of purpose to my clients.

I draw from a number of theories and modalities in my work including interpersonal neurobiology, psychodynamic, attachment-theory, mindfulness-based, somatic, positive psychology , solution focused, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Not Taking New Clients At This Time. I love working with people who are striving to actualize their vision for fulfillment in all aspects of their lives. I love learning what that means for each individual or couple, and partnering with people to make wellbeing a baseline in their lives. Our work together will likely have a balance of both depth and levity. We will explore approaches that enhance your ability to identify and be present with your emotions, and that will help you to re-align and strengthen your connection with your own inner guidance system.

My name is Laurie Dawkins MS Psy, LPC, I hold a Master of Science degree in psychology and I’m a licensed mental health therapist in Oregon. I believe that the difficulties and struggles we all experience in life need not define who we are or determine how we feel about ourselves, and I’m so glad you reached out as the first step towards healing and personal growth. Since you are a genuinely unique human being and no one else in the world has your biological make-up, personality, or life experiences, you and I can work together to create a personalized therapy plan to address your specific needs.

My modalities include Hakomi (mindfulness-based somatic, experiential), Positive Psychology (deep coaching), Gestalt, Psychodrama, and Transpersonal.
Hi! I'm Jesse and I'm going to attempt to help you clarify whether I'm worth contacting in the next few statements. We might be a fit if: You are slightly skeptical of the therapeutic process (you're not alone). You're sensing this is a potential big moment in your life (even if you don't know why). You're someone who does well with a balanced blend of nurturing and challenge. You think growth is possible and awesome and, yes, uncomfortable, but well worth it. Whether you're good at asking for help or not, you know you need it at this moment to get where you're headed. Your dreams are a little scary to say out loud (a good sign!).

I draw from positive psychology , DBT, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, and motivational interviewing, and I have a compassionate, client centered approach.
I am a strengths-based, trauma informed therapist who enjoys helping people work through life challenges and achieve their goals. Responding mindfully to life is crucial for healing, growth, and happiness. We are all interconnected through our relationships. Trauma happens in relation to others, and so does healing. We can choose to change, or we can pass on our trauma to those around us. When we heal ourselves and our communities we make the world a better place.

Currently Accepting New Clients! I have always been fascinated with life’s “big” questions: What gives our life meaning and purpose? How do we live this life to the fullest extent? How do we best manage and live with the suffering and hardship that can arise? These questions and my own personal lived experiences and hardships led me to the field of counseling. What I appreciate most about counseling is that it is an exercise in reminding us about our strengths and resilience, our gifts and talents, our intrinsic value as unique human beings and that that we are not alone in our struggles.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
