I’m interested in working with people who would like to take a holistic look at their mental health. This can include an interpersonal counseling approach as well as testing for and treating any potential underlying physiological causes of mental and emotional symptoms. I particularly enjoy working with people with mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, and OCD.

I will work to help you gain a better understanding of the roots of your emotions and behaviors and to increase your level of mindfulness of the moment-to-moment experience of your life.
I enjoy working with clients who feel that their minds have become unmanageable. This experience often arises from a belief that inner conflict and complexity is a problem to be solved rather than a state of affairs to be understood and befriended. Sometimes this unmanageability shows up as anxiety, where the mind dreads bad outcomes and wont allow you to enjoy your life. Other times as depression, where the mind is mired in hopelessness, despair, or resentment. Addictions of various sorts can also arise from this state of affairs, whereby we try to distract or quiet our minds through destructive patterns of behavior.

I have specialized training and personal experience in EMDR (look into it, it's pretty fascinating!), grief work, and mindfulness /meditation support.
I love supporting teens, young adults, and adults as they work to grow their self-acceptance, trust their own intuition, and get "unstuck" from past experiences and big losses.

I take a holistic approach rooted in Gestalt therapy, mindfulness , and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I strongly believe that all of us are programmed to move towards personal growth and healing. Over time, life experiences and new habits can get in the way and leave us feeling stuck or off track from what feels right. Within the safety and support of the therapeutic relationship, I help my clients increase awareness of these barriers and re-activate their internal healing mechanisms.

I draw on a variety of experiential modalities such as mindfulness and body awareness techniques to help clients access greater calm, creativity, and joy.
Feeling trapped by your circumstances or struggling to find meaning in your life? Maybe you feel powerless to change your personal or relational thought patterns and habits; fortunately, therapy can offer a welcoming space to explore your inner world while providing valuable tools to diffuse negative thinking, develop greater self-love and compassion, and help you reach your full potential. We can all benefit from additional support to address specific problems in life or as a means to further personal growth. If you are motivated and willing, you can make the transformative changes you seek.

I incorporate Mindfulness depending on client interest and need.
*TELEHEALTH OFFERED* Depression, anxiety, and anger can easily overwhelm us when we feel stuck between accepting our problems and changing them. I provide solution-focused, cognitive and behavioral approaches to help clients find the balance between these two seemingly opposing realities. I believe people are already doing the best they can, and that we all need extra support at times to get “unstuck.” I view my clients as the experts in their own lives; my role is to collaborate with them to find more effective solutions to their problems. I will work with you to create a clear path towards creating the life you want to live.

Mindfulness -based therapy is practical, evidence-based, and it works. You don't have to be stuck, overwhelmed, or feel disconnected from your life. You can make positive changes, heal, grow, and thrive.

I use Relational Recovery methods and mindfulness based practices with cognitive experiential teaching to help you build a foundation that grounds you in a healthier way of living in the world.
Recently adding Relational Life approaches into my treatment, I believe that we all have developed adaptive patterns that were formed from our past and worked then, but can stop working as we move forward. These adaptive patterns may keep us; unhappy, disconnected and isolated or angry, hurt and lonely. I can teach you new ways to live in the world that help you get what you seek.

I use mindfulness techniques and an approach influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, to help you gain agency and understanding of the interactions between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
I want to help you seek a more balanced life, build a greater sense of self acceptance, and develop the confidence to pursue growth. My goal as a therapist is to provide a supportive space where you can develop the skills necessary to enhance the quality of your life, heal from trauma and shame, and begin to live in greater alignment with your values. Using a strength-based therapeutic style centered around your knowledge and experience allows us to find strategies that will support you in managing unwanted symptoms. I value the importance that trust, humor, and transparency play in this process of exploration and change.

One strategy (called mindfulness ) that I particularly encourage involves learning to become focused on the present moment, not judging ourselves so harshly, and treating ourselves and others with compassion.
Leadership Skills, Performance Enhancement and Life Coaching. I am confident in the ability of the individual to change. We all face many difficult challenges in life, but these can become opportunities for growth and personal development. Most of us have never really learned the optimal skills and strategies to deal with these challenges. After 30 years working with individuals from a great variety of economic, educational and cultural backgrounds, I have found that identifying and letting go of our old, unproductive coping strategies, and replacing them with new ways of engaging with the world, allows us to live in a more rewarding and productive fashion.

My approach to therapy is; relational (we are two equal humans in the therapy room - I may laugh and cry with you, and share things about myself), somatic (emotions live in the body and we'll explore what this means for you), existential, rooted in mindfulness , and trauma-informed.
Are you looking to deepen your connection to body and self? Has therapy been helpful, and you sense there's more to uncover? Do you want to connect and relate to yourself and others differently? Do you want to be more self-full?

I utilize the tools and process of EMDR, hypnotherapy, Mindfulness , and Insight work in order to guide you to gain deeper self-awareness and insight, increase meaning in your life.
I work with highly sensitive people, people who are looking to expand and dive deeply into their spirituality, teachers, creative people and people who are seeking to be better partners in relationship. My primary training and personal practice stems from a mindfulness framework. After being trained in a Buddhist monastery to meditate, and to spend prolonged periods of time in silence with self, I’ve cultivated the tools to guide others into the same space of joyful fertile ground to plant seeds of your truest desires.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
