I enjoy supporting people who are experiencing various challenges, including grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. We often feel terrified to face our own emotional pain and get to know the parts of ourselves that are feeling helpless, hopeless, or disempowered. I believe that each of us has everything we need within ourselves to find healing and growth. It is my job to support you to connect to yourself and find that path within you. I utilize various techniques to help you cope with (and feel) difficult emotions, connect to your mind and body, and understand the impact of your past and present.

I believe that each person's life is unique and precious no matter how the person perceives it. I believe in our innate healing power, resilience, and creativity. I work with teens and adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety, anger, and other emotional distress related to loss & grief, relational conflict, traumatic events, and life transitions. Together, we work to increase your awareness, expand your capacity to perceive realities and new perspectives, and to grow to be something larger than current self. I also work with intercultural couples who are seeking better communication for greater mutual understanding.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist dedicated to providing compassionate and supportive counseling/psychotherapy. I work with individuals both long and short term. Wanting to understand why adverse or difficult things happen to us is natural. When one can contribute a sense of meaning to a difficult situation the power of the problem is often integrated and diminishes. Therapy is a process that can help an individual find the transformational quality in their adverse experiences and become empowered by them, instead of overwhelmed by them.

Many people grow up in dysfunction and therefore they relate in inappropriate ways. Clients that I have helped the most typically relate to these dysfunctional ways: They guess at what normal is. They judge themselves without mercy. They have difficulty relaxing and enjoying life. They have difficulty with intimate relationships. They over-react to changes over which they have no control. They constantly seek approval and affirmation. They feel that they are different from other people. They avoid conflict or aggravate it; rarely do they deal with it. They fear failure, but sabotage their success.

It is never easy to walk alone in distress, feeling lost and helpless. I believe we all know the best in our lives and are resourceful problem solvers. However, life is hard. In difficult times, the darkness, the pain, and the exhaustion have limited our vision of who we are and what we are capable of, also made us forget our strengths and resilience. Thus, when we work together, I aim at cultivating a trusting environment, accompanying you in your journey, and assisting you in expanding your vision of yourself, bringing back hope, and obtaining a good set of tools to make changes to reach your preferred future in life.

My ideal client is someone that could benefit from a coaching model, such as those feeling stuck in starting a business, wanting greater success, or those looking to access flow states, greater authenticity, peak performance, etc. I also like to work with clients who have attained success--but looking for a "boost" of motivation, flow, and creativity. I also work with clients overcome by poor self-esteem or self-image difficulties, anxiety/social anxiety, and need greater confidence. I utilize mindfulness techniques, dream journaling and interpretation, coaching, etc.

My job and ultimate goal is to provide clients with their own skill set and help them find what works best for them, so that they don't need me to continue navigating their own lives. I hold each and every one of my clients with the highest respect and I take a personal interest in seeing them through transformation and growth. I experience great satisfaction in witnessing them flourish and expand in their lives. To be welcomed along as a teammate in someone else's personal journey and path is an exceptional honor that I do not take lightly.

Seeking the assistance of a professional counselor is an important decision. Reaching out for help can be difficult, but once the decision has been made, most people, in my experience, find the outcome to be extremely rewarding. Stress, relationship difficulties, and career disenchantment are just a few of the normal issues that anyone may encounter over the course of one's life. Seeking an experienced and skilled counselor to help deal with any of these concerns is a demonstration of personal strength and healthy coping.

How can I find a therapist in Portland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
