I provide individual therapy from a humanistic, gestalt , and somatic approach.
You may be struggling to adapt to changes in your life and feeling anxious, depressed, and lost. We all respond to challenges in creative ways, and these adaptations can make us less flexible, leading to difficulties in other areas. Perhaps this is impacting your relationships, including how you feel about yourself. You might be having difficulty understanding and expressing your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it is hard to heal from the past, find comfort in the present, and choose a way forward. Therapy can help derive meaning from experience and discover a greater sense of purpose.

I use an eclectic and integrative approach unique to you which includes Client-Centered, Attachment Theory, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Hakomi.
I believe that darkness is an opportunity to find our own true light. Pain is a guide that leads us to be fully present with our experiences and unearth their true meaning and wisdom. We all have the ability to find and know our truth. We hold our own healing and answers deep within ourselves. My role is to provide a nurturing, respectful environment where I stay connected and present with you in this discovery process. Although this may be challenging and uncomfortable at times, it will lead you to more self-appreciation and self-love in your healing journey.

My perspective is rooted in Transpersonal, Gestalt , Existential/Humanistic, Jungian/Depth Psychology, Eco-Psychology, and Spiritual Guidance perspectives.
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW INDIVIDUAL CLIENTS...Everyone is on a journey of personal development; making meaning of their lives and experiences. I consider people to be the experts in their lives, who, when supported, are able to follow their natural drive for self-actualization. All human experiences are a valuable part of the process of self-emergence. Even the greatest challenges can offer insight and fuel for a path forward. I seek to draw out clients' strengths and support the cultivation of their inner guide. People are neither sick nor well. Rather, we are all in process, with personal depths that want for exploration.

I work with clients of various sexual, gender, and cultural backgrounds to address issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, identity concerns, and life transitions. I collaborate with clients & their other providers to determine the focus and nature of therapy. I believe all people are oriented towards health and growth, but sometimes develop problematic ways of thinking, acting, being, and interacting. I work through a Gestalt lens which basically incorporates the use of dialog in therapy to help build and support your awareness.
Life can be hard. We depend on others to live the life we have. Health in life is a combination of internal and external supports. I can help you explore your internal supports and identify those external supports which help you with trauma, stress, loss. My approach works as an external support to your internal support as you walk through difficult times and situations. I work with individuals, couples, families, adults, adolescents and children. I meet you in the situation and time you find your self by providing support for acceptance of where you are and support towards where you want to be.

After 25+ years of providing counseling I find my philosophy has grown simpler and more to the point. Successful counseling is built on a positive and trusting relationship, much as successful living is dependent on trusting, healthy relationships. I bring a broad array of treatment tools to my work including gestalt , object relations and psychodynamic theory. Most importantly I bring myself; my heart, my humor, my understanding, knowledge and years of experience. I work with adults and children, couples and groups(this includes families).

I practice a style of therapy, Gestalt Therapy, that is less talking about problems and more an active exploration of your experience in the world, with a strong emphasis on your embodied experience.
I wish to honor the struggle bringing you to therapy while holding the possibility for real, long lasting transformation. My intention is to create a space where you feel safe and capable of holding your experiences in new ways. From this space of self-acceptance, we will begin to explore the ways in which your natural expression has been distorted. In essence, you will recognize and work with the blocks limiting your life.

Therapy is an inherently collaborative process. As such, I believe that effective therapy begins by building a foundation of trust, understanding, and compassion. I see my clients as the experts on their experience, their values, and their goals. My role is to work with individuals to identify and develop creative strategies, tools, insights, etc., to support their growth and healing. As an integrative therapist, my work is primarily based in CBT/DBT, Gestalt , Mindfulness-based therapies, and is neuropsychologically informed. My perspective is grounded in feminist and intersectional frameworks, with an emphasis on cultural humility.

Client-centered, body-positive Gestalt therapy style, which includes dialectic and congnitive behavioral therapies.
You can find a safe space with therapy when you can find it nowhere else. Finding trustworthy professionals to help you with intimate issues is embarrassing and difficult. This is my most important skill, something not learned in school: unconditional positive acceptance and honest, non-threatening communication about intimate problems. Here you will find sensitivity to private behaviors which are regarded with non-judgmental acceptance and respect, never shame nor intolerance.

Over the years I have developed many strategies to help individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. Call me for more information.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
