Some of the struggles I can help with include managing stress and anxiety, reducing depression, improving self-esteem/self-worth, finding solutions to relational challenges, parenting conflicts, and working with those who identify as gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender, as well as neurodivergent folx.
My approach to treatment includes a combination of both Cognitive-Behavioral and Narrative theories. These two approaches aim to look at how thoughts and ideas influence emotions and effect behaviors and decisions. In addition, this approach attempts to separate the problem from the individual and often uses homework assignments, journaling, and mindfulness exercises as therapeutic interventions. I believe that the counseling experience is a sacred one. You, as the client, have the power to make healthy and helpful choices in your life. It is my role to assist you in this journey.

Is your child struggling with behaviors in school or at home? Are they navigating a new diagnosis or having difficulty processing acute or prolonged trauma? In my practice, I work directly with children using their natural language (play!) to allow them to explore their interactions with the world around them in a safe environment. With consistency, patience, and acceptance, I find children have great success in learning to regulate their emotions and behaviors inside and out of the playroom.

Over 20 years experience working with individuals and couples from marginalized groups, especially neurodivergence in the form of bipolar disorder, autism, and/or ADHD.
In couples work, I help folks relate more effectively to feel more like "experts" on each other's needs. With individuals, I focus on support and skills for neurodivergent people who are autistic, have bipolar disorder and/or ADHD. I see a lot of late-in-life diagnosed people who are finally realizing why their life has felt like a struggle for so long.

As an LGBTQ+ neurodivergent therapist, I know it’s not easy living in a world that wasn’t built for you.
I specialize in therapy empowering neurodivergent people who don't fit the outdated, "traditional" picture of neurodivergence, including people of color, women, nonbinary, and trans individuals. Together, we create a therapeutic space that honors individuality, promotes resilience, and fosters growth in a safe, understanding environment.

I also offer traditional talk therapy using CBTs, and neurobehavioral therapy to address behavioral challenges particularly in children diagnosed with ASD with or without intellectual disabilities.
I tend to work with people who have tried many different therapies which failed to adequately improve their brain-related challenges or the benefits of such therapies have plateaued. Thus, this means that my clients tend to have fairly complex symptomologies and diagnoses, sometimes they don't even have formal diagnoses due to the unique mix of symptoms. Maybe the client has physical symptoms that their physician cannot explain and says are psychosomatic or due to a history of complex trauma. I also work with children for both neurofeedback and neurobehavioral counseling, which is behavioral counseling based on neurobiology.

Perhaps you've spent years navigating a world not designed for you while having to mask as an Autistic person, or compensate for your challenges with ADHD, sensory processing disorder, anxiety, and more.
Navigating life as a neurodivergent person can be an isolating journey. This weight can lead to challenges in relationships, self-regulation, routines, and finding success in school or work. The struggle to understand why daily tasks seem more overwhelming or why interactions feel more challenging is a common experience.

Autism Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
