It is widely acknowledged that at the heart of any therapeutic success is not the methodology used, or the theoretical approach. Nor is it the specific treatment chosen or prescribed. Research demonstrates clearly that truly, what matters most – what makes the difference and leads to positive outcomes for individuals - is the relationship between therapist and client. Determine for yourself whether you can work with a person, or not. There is no magical cure, no manual that will apply to every person. Finding the right therapist is much like finding a partner, in that it may take some time but you should not have to 'settle'.

If you often feel anxious, disconnected, or weighed down by depression, your nervous system (and your cognitive parts) may be stuck in a state of high alert. This can make it hard to feel the calm, clear, connection of Self in your life.
I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other supporting modalities where appropriate, to help you understand and heal the parts of you that carry pain, fear, and self-criticism. Together, we’ll work to understand your protective parts, heal your exiled parts, and increase your connection to your Self.

I love working with a variety of people. I have a lot of experience working with: survivors of trauma, neurodivergent/neurospicy brains, parents, therapists, LGBTQIA+ folks, people in poly and open relationships, people in monogamous relationships, and people who are just generally tired of hearing their therapist respond to everything with “mmmmmm…. How does that make you feel?” While I will ask you how things make you feel, (I am still a therapist after all) I am very engaged and proactive as a therapist. I love helping people get somewhere in their life that they didn’t believe they could.

You deserve a space where you can breathe, slow down, and be fully yourself.
Many of my clients are thoughtful, sensitive, or intuitive people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from who they know they could be. They’re navigating life transitions, emotional shifts, or complicated relationship dynamics—and they’re longing for clarity, peace, and a deeper sense of alignment.
If this sounds familiar, you might be craving greater self-awareness, authentic connection, and a grounded sense of self. You may want to break old patterns, trust yourself more, and finally feel at home in your own life. You’re not alone in this.

You may be struggling with difficult changes in your life and feeling down, worried, or lost. We all respond to challenges in unique and creative ways, and these ways of adapting can make us less flexible, leading to problems in other areas of our lives. Perhaps this is impacting your relationships and how you feel about yourself. You may be having trouble understanding and expressing your thoughts and feelings. It can be difficult to heal from the past, find joy and comfort in the present, and choose the right path. I look forward to helping you make meaning from challenging experiences, and discover a greater sense of purpose.

I wonder what kind of therapists people scroll through psychology profiles to therapist shop for. When people ask me what my ideal client I actually wonder what are people's ideal therapists? I think this is important when thinking about an ideal client and therapists because I see it as a collaborative work. I'm not here to force you what I think is best for you, therapy is something both the client and therapist figure out together to meet the client's needs and goals.

You may be struggling in your relationship, uncertain about how to parent, or trying to hold everything together while falling apart inside. You know something needs to change, but you're not sure what or how. What you want is clarity, connection, and a way for.

My ideal clients are children and families seeking support around behavior and communication concerns. They may be struggling with dysfunctional dynamics that have long persisted, or they may be facing new challenges brought on by recent change or loss. They desire to work collaboratively within a systems model to investigate the “whys” behind their distress, in order to get to the “how” when it comes to managing the way they respond to adversity individually and collectively. Ultimately my clients have the goal of becoming more capable and confident members of their family and society.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
