With a background in holistic nutrition, bodywork, and earth-based
spirituality
, my therapeutic approach focuses on empowering individuals to tap into their own innate capacity for healing of the mind, body and spirit.
**All sessions done virtually.** If you are ready to make embodiment a priority and stop over-riding your body's messages, or if you have been on the healing journey for some time but feel stuck, you have come to the right place! My approach is experiential, mindfulness-based, somatic, and person-centered. I utilize somatic ways of working with trauma, depression, anxiety and attachment issues.

Hello! Thank you for considering me to accompany you on this sacred journey. I believe counseling is a powerful tool for overcoming obstacles to well-being and human flourishing. I treat clients with a range of issues, from existential issues and coping with the demands of life, to mood disorders and anxiety, complex trauma and PTSD,
spirituality
concerns and religious trauma, and men's and LGBTQi issues. Together, we will examine these problems, trace their origins to childhood and significant adult relationships, and learn new skills and new ways of relating to others and ourselves to rediscover well-being and flourishing in life.

Love. Joy. Ecstasy. Awe. In my 16 years of clinical experience, I’ve discovered that we each have far more capacity for these expansive feelings than we often realize. Whether you are struggling to get through the daily grind, or feel ready to fly through the stars, I can work with you collaboratively to shape a life that fulfills your highest dreams, and maybe even soars beyond them! I’m eager to share what I’ve learned about our abilities to break out of old patterns of shame, hurt, and fear into fruitful creativity and communion with the most inspiring aspects of being alive.

Conversation, relatedness, working with dreams, expressive arts, and
spirituality
may also guide our work to inner sources of healing.
Real transformation often begins when you're suffering intensely. The intense suffering breaks through your hesitation to change at a core level. You don't have a choice anymore. Dark material surfaces: emotional and physical trauma, religious trauma, loss, anxiety, spiritual crisis, meaninglessness, depression, and illness. Imagine that the symptoms you're suffering from are calling you home to a new way of living and being. I bring a high level of clinical experience, training, and compassion to my work. I am truly interested in you, how you got to this difficult point, and how to connect you to your authentic self.

I work with couples, individuals and teens ages 13 and up who are facing challenges like: job stress, creative blocks, relationship struggles, self esteem, depression, anger, anxiety, gender identity,
spirituality
, sexuality, major life transitions, and grief and loss.
I think counseling is always useful, even when there's nothing "wrong." We get a lot of chances to go, go, go but not a lot to slow down and reflect. Usually it takes some crisis of feeling or relationship to tell us it's time. I see those crises as opportunities, doorways to deeper understanding. And because we're not fixed individuals, they come and go as we change and grow.

I work with people having a wide range of concerns. Areas of specialty include identity formation, relationship dynamics, loss, and issues of
spirituality
(both questioning and growth). I work especially well with persons who are curious about themselves and their ways of interacting with the world. I practice relationally-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy; meaning that, where relevant, we talk about relationships in your life impacting your way of navigating the world. We have each found ways to survive our world as best we can; at some point, we may consider wanting to shift these ways because they do not work as well as they once did.

I help clients through these struggles and others that we all might face: depression, stress, anxiety, grief, and issues with relationships,
spirituality
, or self-esteem.
In my practice with individuals and couples, I often use mindfulness-based therapies. Mindfulness has helped a great number of people work through the emotional difficulties that life often presents. Yet I always work in a way that serves my clients best. If you are experiencing emotional distress, I offer you a therapy environment of safety, caring, acceptance, and trust. My goal for all of my clients is to compassionately help them resolve any barriers that are preventing them from living joyfully. I work with any client(s) living in Oregon via a secure teletherapy platform.

Focus areas include challenging self-limiting beliefs, building self-compassion, fostering a more positive outlook, identifying internal strengths, moving away from emotional reactivity and into emotional awareness, creating growth-oriented structure/routines, exploring mindfulness and
spirituality
, and embracing creative expression as a healing tool.
Sometimes life gets extra lifey and although you’ve done a lot of “the work,” you find yourself stuck. I support navigation through stuckness, past maintaining, and into wholeheartedly living. I engage a collaborative, person-centered approach based upon the belief that all of us have the innate power to find solutions for ourselves, make positive changes, and attain our fullest potential. I use a warm, empathetic, humorous, and holistic approach that involves exploring mind, body, and spirit to gently guide healing, facilitate perceptual shifts, expand personal awareness, and support alignment with one’s most authentic self.

COVID-19 - You are not alone. Feelings of isolation may be intensified. Rather than being an obstacle, our bodies and our sensual nature can be integral to personal and spiritual liberation. My work is grounded, respectful and authentic. In confidential, online sessions, men gain mastery of how to generate, contain and transform sexual energy and cultivate deep presence. Women remember how to heal and reclaim their sexual power and become radiant in their ability to be love. Profound levels of respect and joy emerge within couples. As a result, we learn to relax deeply and access our life potential in a profound and powerful way.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
