Anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues can show up in our relationships. Relationships are key to a healthy psyche - those with ourselves, friends, family , co-workers, and partners. Often times, one or more of those relationships aren't going how we want them to, potentially because of underlying issues in ourselves, or in them. I can help you address the underlying causes so that your life feels more joyful, smooth, and aligned with your desires. I know I can help you because I've helped heal hundreds experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and relationship issues, including myself.

I focus not only on the person and their family history, but also the context in which a dysfunction is developed and the purpose it serves, despite appearing irrational, destructive, painful.
My approach to therapy is practical, result-oriented, and emphasizes empowerment through the building of insight and self-awareness. In an atmosphere of trust and collaboration, I will work with you to understand the meaning of your symptoms and rediscover your capacity to make meaningful choices that are right for you.

Some of the things we can explore are loneliness, codependency, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, being queer/questioning, unhealthy relationships to food, body positivity/neutrality, conscious discipline parenting skills, play therapy, sandtray, family systems, and managing difficult life transitions.
I believe we all have the tools within us to overcome our challenges. My approach is to walk alongside you as we name and process the obstacles you face. I hope to provide a safe space that is inclusive and affirming of your needs and to help you find self acceptance. I offer exploration of attachment styles and tapping into underlying emotions through Emotion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also have a background in child development where I taught preschool for over five years.

As a Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling Associate, I have a heart for helping families and all of the systems that make them up.
Accepting new clients as of 6/13/22. Everyone faces difficult things in life that can become overwhelming to deal with on their own. Having others to rely on is an important component to navigating through those hard times without further emotional distress. As a mental health professional, I hope to support clients in working through all the daily stresses, traumatic events, life transitions, and relationship challenges that they may be facing. I approach all clients with a desire to step into their world as an observer and serve as a guide to uncovering strengths and possible solutions that can bring about change and healing.

Family Connections Counseling is a fat-positive and identity affirming space and I am committed to my own continued work toward allyship both in the therapy space and in my personal life.
Despite what Instagram, TikTok, or an opinionated in-law may have us believe, none of us are born knowing how to parent, and many of us are actively working on changing intergenerational patterns in our own families in order to better support the growth and development of our children, in essence, reparenting ourselves. This process is a difficult one, and not meant to be done in isolation. Together we can look at how you were parented, how you want to parent, and how to bridge any gaps in between.

Another modality that I am learning is Internal Family Systems and it is a wonderful adjunct to what I already do with couples.
I want to unfold. I don't want to stay folded anywhere, because where I am folded, there I am a lie, and I want my grasp of things to be true. - Rainer Maria Rilke. I love working with clients with all sorts of issues (anxiety, depression, relationship concerns and trauma) but I am especially interested in older couples. I have experience in gerontology and have been a couples therapist since 2003. And this work brings me great joy. My approach is eclectic but includes the work of John Gottman, David Burns, Prepare/Enrich, DBT, and Inquiry-Based Stress Reduction. And with individuals I do EMDR and other modalities.

I utilize a mindfulness approach and incorporate cbt, dbt, narrative and family systems theory.
Hello, I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families I specialize in treating anxiety and depression. I have experience working with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I also enjoy working with teenage and younger clients. I see many people who are going through life transitions. When one is going through grief and loss, education challenges, relationship difficulties, a new family member, pain or illness, it can be particularly difficult to cope and particularly beneficial to be in therapy to work through these issues with an unbiased ear. I also specialize in working with individuals who have struggles with chronic pain.

My areas of focus are family conflict, co-dependency and 12-step recovery, trauma, and couples work.
I believe therapy has the power to transform people's lives and improve their relationships. My approach is collaborative and relational. In therapy, I work with clients to develop concrete goals and tools to increase confidence in themselves and in their relationships. I also assist clients in processing how past experiences may contribute to insecurities, unhelpful patterns in relationships, and professional dissatisfaction. Throughout the therapy process I help empower clients to change their life narratives by expressing and pursuing what they want in their lives.

Most of my clients are working through significant life transitions, including: perinatal mental health concerns, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, or family relational conflict.
I provide therapeutic support for individual adults, children, and families around significant life transitions. Being human means that we experience transition and change. Some changes are expected and slower in nature. Some are abrupt and traumatic. Through my calm presence, strong support, and our therapeutic relationship, I can help you move through these transitions, and gain insight, healing, and change. I offer a nonjudgmental space where we can explore together sources of your pain or distress, while developing new ways of interacting with your self and others. I offer empathy, experience, and expertise to help you heal.

My training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, family systems, shame resilience and The Daring Way(tm) will help light the way forward; whether we work individually or alongside your loved ones.
Reaching out for help can be terrifying especially when we're hurting. Throughout the past decade I've worked with University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work, Menninger Clinic, The Council on Recovery and Montrose Center. I have specific interest in working with men and couples who are looking to deepen intimacy within themselves and in their relationships. As an educator and clinical supervisor, I offer guidance to students as they establish and fine-tune their love for this work. I commit myself to co-creating a therapeutic environment where safety and growth are of top priority. We are in this together.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
