Depression,
anxiety
, conflict or life transitions can leave us feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Therapy can, and should, be a safe and collaborative relationship where we work through the complications of life and relationships to find a more hopeful, rewarding and loving experience of the world. I want you to feel active in your therapy as we work toward gentle healing and personal growth. In addition to working with individuals, couples and families, I write and connect through Core Parenting (coreparentingpdx.com) where I help parents follow their own inner wisdom through the joys and challenges of parenthood and co-parenting.

I am particularly skilled in my use of EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing, working with adults dealing with trauma,
anxiety
, divorce or relationship issues.
Do you want to make room in your life for joy, confidence and hope? My approach is informed, compassionate, and heart-centered. Finding body-centered techniques beneficial to the body, I pace therapy with your body's wisdom. I work to resolve traumatic stress patterns, transforming them to nurture your unique, individual unfolding. I utilize a developmental, humanistic approach, integrating my psychotherapy training. My desire is to be available to adults to assist them in opening doors they have been unable to open alone, helping them assimilate difficult material at their own pace.

I assist clients who are experiencing a range of presenting concerns, including but not limited to: mental health concerns such as depression,
anxiety
and other general life adjustments, addiction or substance use concerns, traumatic experiences, familial conflict, relationship conflict, intimate partner violence, anger expression, and grief/loss.
Currently Accepting New Clients! I have always been fascinated with life’s “big” questions: What gives our life meaning and purpose? How do we live this life to the fullest extent? How do we best manage and live with the suffering and hardship that can arise? These questions and my own personal lived experiences and hardships led me to the field of counseling. What I appreciate most about counseling is that it is an exercise in reminding us about our strengths and resilience, our gifts and talents, our intrinsic value as unique human beings and that that we are not alone in our struggles.

I use mindfulness with clients to reduce
anxiety
, depression and stress.
Let's face it. Life is a juggling act between home, work, school, friends and family. Our bodies are bioenergetic systems geared for balance. When things go well, our energy flows and we feel good. When life happens and stress occurs, we can feel
anxiety
, depression and physical pain. We reach outside ourselves for relief when going inside is the answer. If you are ready for change and are committed to making that happen, please make an appointment today. My approach is wholistic and I use Energy Psychology (Tapping), Zen Buddhism and Mindfulness to achieve a client's goals.

Change is possible. A diagnosis of OCD or another
anxiety
disorder can be scary and confusing. It can feel like your life is defined by dread, worry, fear, and exhaustion. Much of your energy and time are likely spent trying to present to the outside world as “successful” and “having it all together”. Internally, you may feel disconnected from your core self, your innate purpose and potential, and the ability to enjoy simple moments in your life.
Anxiety
doesn’t have to define who you are as a human. Therapy is courageous work. I’m glad you’re here making this first step.

Not accepting new clients. Don't invalidate your pain. I believe you and your relationships are too important to put off therapy. Maybe it’s that reoccurring fight leaving you stuck, not heard, or feeling hopeless? Or you are ready to address that
anxiety
or loss of motivation that's been accepted as your new normal. Maybe what previously worked feels dull and you want to see and feel progress again. I draw from evidence-based practices such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, ACT, and others to help you accomplish your desired outcome in therapy.

Just as no two people are affected the exact same way by depression and
anxiety
, there is no “one size fits all” treatment. What works for one person might not work for another. My passion in counseling is aimed at clinical mental health. Suffering with
anxiety
, depression, trauma and ptsd can range in severity and symptoms, requiring different interventions. I am eclectic in my approach so that I can meet the client where they need guidance the most. Coming from a strengths-based approach allows me to help the client discover the positive attributes in a situation rather than the negative.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
