I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Urban and rural, inpatient and outpatient work settings have taught me about the many challenges an individual may face including experiences of oppression and injustice, as well as a deep appreciation for the richness of the human experience. My style is described as warm, analytical and collaborative, balancing deep emotional work with elements of humor and lightness when appropriate. I aim to help clients address the root of complex challenges, in a safe and supported way.

It is not uncommon to feel lost at different points in life. Life can be complicated: Family dynamics, career fulfillment, managing multiple responsibilities, understanding your partner, overwhelmed from transitions, college stress, socializing, making sense of the past. I believe that together we can process your experiences which can lead to a meaningful life and personal growth. It's a huge step attending therapy and I welcome you into this space with sensitivity and compassion. I am a Latinx therapist dedicated to working with adults.

It may not be easy to begin seeing a therapist, particularly if you are dealing with a difficult transition, relationship problem, grief, anxiety or depression. I strive to offer a safe, accepting, and respectful environment for addressing your issues. I will support you in discovering your own strengths, wisdom and inner resources and can offer tools for coping, growth and change, learned through over 20 years of clinical practice, and my own life experience. I believe in a collaborative process in which we can identify your goals, work through challenges, and create a plan for change.

I believe we each have within us all that we need in order to create the life we desire and that therapy is a collaborative effort between client and therapist to work towards creating this life. I see my role as a therapist to be one in which I inspire clients to open up to the possibilities within themselves and to support, challenge and hold them through that process. I also strongly believe that healing comes from addressing all parts of the self (emotional, physical and spiritual) and bringing these into alignment.

Transitioning to parenthood can feel overwhelming. Fertility challenges can be an incredibly stressful and isolating experience. Whether you are struggling with getting pregnant as quickly as expected, pregnancy loss, feeling overwhelmed with navigating medical systems, coping with anxiety or unexpected depression and stress, or navigating this journey solo or in unconventional ways, building a family can be filled with uncertainty.

Feeling overwhelmed, depressed, on edge from anxiety or stressed? Perhaps you feel stuck, despite your efforts? You’re not alone. I’m here to help. Let’s be honest, sometimes we all need a little help & support, even if we’ve tried working on it for a while on our own. Life can be complex & hard at times. Sometimes we find ourselves facing issues of pain stemming from racism, poverty, and/or different types of trauma (including religious trauma). As a biracial & multicultural therapist (Latina/White/Brazilian), I would be honored to collaborate on how we can work together to get the relief or changes you desire.

We get thrown for loops all the time, some are small and we bounce back, others are bigger and we may need help to navigate them. Many of the folks I see are at the top of one of these bigger loops; maybe you just received a new chronic illness diagnosis or are in chronic pain that is taking you away from what's important to you, maybe your sexuality has shifted and you're struggling to make sense of it, maybe you're ready to unpack a trauma that's taking from your life, maybe you want to make a change with substance use that's not working anymore. The challenges we face can seem insurmountable and you don't have to go it alone!

Note: My website is cooler! I’m Kate. I’ve been working with people for a long time and I love it. I'm here for the Gen Z/Millennials/young at heart as you explore, discover, and create who you are. You are the main character. You are the one who can grow magic even after hard times in hard places. And I’m your garden consultant. You probably have ideas about why life feels hard right now. Often it’s things like: big feelings or thoughts, relationship struggles, or current dumpster fire events. Or maybe everything just feels like a confusing mess and you’re worried about what happens if you don’t sort it out.

As a therapist, I invite my clients to know and radically accept themselves more fully so they can create change from a place that is wise, honest, and compassionate. My clients often arrive anxious, hopeless, in painful cycles of conflict, and having tried many other therapists. They feel disconnected from themselves and their relationships. I guide couples and individuals toward the changes they want to see in their relationship by creating an accepting space to be curious, receive support, and get direct coaching on how to do it differently. I believe in a slow, deep, and holistic approach.

I am so grateful to be a therapist and meet people in their inner worlds. I recognize the strength it takes to emotionally explore and self-reflect, and the vulnerability in doing this, so it is my honor to support clients on their journeys. I work with clients on both a short and long-term basis, depending on their needs.

As a psychoanalyst, I work with individuals who are seeking not just relief, but meaning—people who are ready to explore the deeper layers of their inner world. My practice is especially suited to those navigating the enduring impact of childhood trauma, relational wounding, narcissistic abuse, codependency, and people-pleasing—patterns that once ensured survival but now feel both familiar and difficult to change. I also specialize in working with therapists and high-functioning professionals who are drawn to psychoanalysis as a path toward deeper personal and professional integration and provide psychodynamic supervision.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
