I have experience working with a diverse clientele and specialize in the following areas: anxiety, depression, women's mental health, pregnancy -related issues and family-building efforts, relationships, adult ADHD, grief and loss and career development.
I believe that each of us has an inner wisdom that can guide us through life's most difficult challenges. At times our inner voice is strong and clear, whereas at other times it is faint and obscure. Psychotherapy can help us discover and clarify who we are, what we need, the direction we want to go and the form we want our lives to take. I assist my clients in clarifying their thoughts, feelings, perceptions and values, ultimately resulting in positive changes in their relationships and lives.

Welcome! I enjoy working with individuals and couples, and walking alongside them in their healing. I believe therapy is a collaborative experience between the family and therapist, that each client has the resiliency and resources they need already within, and that it is our job to uncover them. My work with clients considers biological, psychological, social, and spiritual factors. I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing relational distress, sex concerns, infertility/ pregnancy issues, transracial/transnational family dynamics, processing trauma, religion and spirituality, body-image concerns, or low self esteem.

I specialize in a wide range of Women's Issues including Pregnancy , Postpartum Women and Couples, Relationship Issues, Child-free Women, Women Survivors, and more.
All of us face experiences in our lives where we can benefit from the support and connection that therapy provides. Scientific evidence demonstrates that a strong and consistent therapeutic relationship is restorative, healing and emotionally regulating. As a therapist, I believe in connecting with clients, human-to-human, and I regularly feel a deep sense of understanding for those with whom I work. There is so much noise around us that it is often difficult for us to hear our own truth. I offer a compassionate, heart-centered space to help you to deeply trust your own inner strength and core values.

We often experience the most conflict with those to whom we are closest. This can cause strain and disconnect in our most valued relationships. While this can cause strain at any time, it can be especially prominent during pregnancy and the first few years after children are born. Parenting can be incredibly rewarding…. and one of the most challenging times in our lives. It can also be an opportunity for change and growth. Individual, couples, and family therapy can help you reconnect with others, deepen and strengthen your ability to support and nurture your relationships, and your children.

I help women and couples heal and thrive. Periods of relationship challenges, grief and loss, identity transitions, and emotional stress can lead us to feel lost and alone. These times come for us all and can be an invitation to tend unhealed wounds, uncover intuition, strengthen relationships, and make brave and compassionate choices toward a life you love. I help women to transform inter-generational trauma into wholeness and vitality, stay grounded through fertility challenges and new motherhood, and establish healthy boundaries and nourishing relationships.

I draw upon interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and positive psychology-based approaches in my work and strive to be warm, authentic, collaborative, interactive, and empowering in my sessions. On a personal note, I was drawn to working in this field through my own experience with fertility challenges and became a mother myself through egg donation. I am a Pacific NW native and, in my spare time, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, gardening, travel, and spending time with my family including my dogs Maisy and Riley.

I think counseling is always useful, even when there's nothing "wrong." We get a lot of chances to go, go, go but not a lot to slow down and reflect. Usually it takes some crisis of feeling or relationship to tell us it's time. I see those crises as opportunities, doorways to deeper understanding. And because we're not fixed individuals, they come and go as we change and grow.

At Connections First we have faith in the power of connection: with your inner life and to the outer world through meaningful relationships. We believe that mental health is an effect of feeling more deeply connected to ourselves and to others through the safety of transparent, emotionally honest relationships. How we communicate with ourselves and those we care about determines whether we possess integrity and feel empowered to express ourselves as human beings. Much of our symptoms are the effects of emotional, psychological, and physical isolation and self-alienation which can even happen when we are surrounded by other people.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
