Parenting
and relationship can be challenging! Everyone deserves support and care during these transitions.
We often experience the most conflict with those to whom we are closest. This can cause strain and disconnect in our most valued relationships. While this can cause strain at any time, it can be especially prominent during pregnancy and the first few years after children are born.
Parenting
can be incredibly rewarding…. and one of the most challenging times in our lives. It can also be an opportunity for change and growth. Individual, couples, and family therapy can help you reconnect with others, deepen and strengthen your ability to support and nurture your relationships, and your children.

My practice consists of adults and older adolescents dealing with a variety of issues including, but not limited to, relationship concerns, divorce,
parenting
issues, childhood abuse, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and trauma.
Therapy is an opportunity for personal development in a safe, nonjudgmental, respectful, private, and supportive environment. It is natural to feel overwhelmed at times and it is not a sign of weak character to seek help. Through therapy we can learn to manage our emotions more effectively, improve our relationships and communication, bolster our confidence and self-esteem, and minimize our distress. In my work, I strive to create a comfortable environment in which I can assist clients in identifying thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and recurring patterns of behavior that may be impinging on the capacity to experience and create a fuller, more satisfying life.

I specialize in depression and anxiety, chronic pain, multicultural assimilation, crisis of meaning, grief, and loss, relationship difficulties,
parenting
issues.
I have had the privilege of witnessing people undergo the slow, extremely subtle and remarkable journey of healing and self-transformation. This process of psychological growth is astoundingly complex, multilayered, circular and even mysteriously numinous in its unfolding. My philosophy as a therapist is primarily on core transformation rather than merely symptom management and needless to say, I strongly believe in the centrality of the therapeutic relationship as a significant healing agent. Moving towards our wholeness necessitates the courage to first move into the wounded parts that we all have as members of the human species.

I typically work individually with patients, with the exception of
parent
consultation while working with adolescents.
Hello there. I have been in practice providing psychotherapy to adults and adolescents since 1994. Some clients see me briefly for focused concerns such as life transitions or work/school issues. Others who seek my help have been struggling with longer term depression/anxiety, effects of past trauma, or problematic relationship patterns, for many years. In either case I work from a psychoanalytic framework, using the power of the here and now therapy relationship to explore how peoples' unconscious thoughts color their experience of themselves and others. Over time this work often leads to deep, lasting life changes.

Be it wrestling with unresolved trauma, anxiety and/or depression, relationship challenges, and/or
parenting
issues, my therapeutic goals are tend to explore effective ways to adjust to change and discover acceptance of past experiences.
As we evolve through life, we are faced with challenges and new roles that may make us feel inadequate and uncomfortable. It is not uncommon for a person to feel stuck or lost during this time. For the past 25 years, in an educational and therapeutic setting, I have worked along side adults, and couples/families to help create effective ways to tackle such challenges. When we negatively question our self-worth and strengths, it is time to develop productive ways to break old patterns and see through a truthful lenses.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
