I work with couples, individuals and teens ages 13 and up who are facing challenges like: job stress, creative blocks, relationship struggles, self esteem, depression, anger, anxiety, gender identity, spirituality, sexuality, major life transitions, and
grief
and
loss
.
I think counseling is always useful, even when there's nothing "wrong." We get a lot of chances to go, go, go but not a lot to slow down and reflect. Usually it takes some crisis of feeling or relationship to tell us it's time. I see those crises as opportunities, doorways to deeper understanding. And because we're not fixed individuals, they come and go as we change and grow.

I enjoy supporting people who are experiencing various challenges, including
grief
and
loss
, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. We often feel terrified to face our own emotional pain and get to know the parts of ourselves that are feeling helpless, hopeless, or disempowered. I believe that each of us has everything we need within ourselves to find healing and growth. It is my job to support you to connect to yourself and find that path within you. I utilize various techniques to help you cope with (and feel) difficult emotions, connect to your mind and body, and understand the impact of your past and present.

We all deserve to have our stories witnessed & responded to with empathy & care. This is why I am committed to holding space for those healing from religious harm, processing
grief
, & individuals who identify as biracial & monoracial Black, Indigenous, and people of color. As a multiracial & relationally based therapist, I recognize that engaging in therapy can be vulnerable if not intimidating & it is important for your full identity to be seen.

Issues that I find particularly satisfying to process: Transitions,
Grief
&
Loss
, Finding Meaning, Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Relationships, Family Patterns, Motivation, Career Development, Fear, Self-Image, Self-Care, and Body Image Issues.
I believe we navigate the waters of life by constantly adjusting to subtle and profound changes, much like tacking a sailboat or steering a kayak in order to keep moving ahead. How we experience those changes -- as
loss
or opportunity, with sadness or joy -- determines the course we will follow. While each of us must make the individual choice of how to move forward, I believe we are all in this together. No one need navigate alone. The process of counseling is to support the planning of the trip ahead, and to help navigate the waters of life.

Establishing a sense of wholeness and direction in our lives is often revealed once obstacles are known and cleared. This process of self discovery is far more potent and transformational when working with a therapist who can help navigate these unfamiliar places. My practice is largely informed by the personal experience of profound
grief
. Journeying through these difficult waters allows me to uniquely empathize and assist my clients through life struggles and losses.

"You are braver than you believe. Stronger than you seem. Smarter than you think." -A.A. Milne. If this is your first step in wondering if therapy is right for you, I'm glad you made it here. If you, or someone you love, has been diagnosed with a life-limiting or terminal illness, I'm glad you made it here. If you're struggling with feelings of
grief
,
loss
, burnout, isolation, depression, or anxiety, I'm glad you made it here. If your once-fulfilling work (paid or unpaid) now feels draining, I'm glad you made it here. Therapy is the process of exploring what restricts us and developing the skills and insights to nurture growth.

Real transformation often begins when you're suffering intensely. The intense suffering breaks through your hesitation to change at a core level. You don't have a choice anymore. Dark material surfaces: emotional and physical trauma, religious trauma,
loss
, anxiety, spiritual crisis, meaninglessness, depression, and illness. Imagine that the symptoms you're suffering from are calling you home to a new way of living and being. I bring a high level of clinical experience, training, and compassion to my work. I am truly interested in you, how you got to this difficult point, and how to connect you to your authentic self.

I believe that each of us has an inner wisdom that can guide us through life's most difficult challenges. At times our inner voice is strong and clear, whereas at other times it is faint and obscure. Psychotherapy can help us discover and clarify who we are, what we need, the direction we want to go and the form we want our lives to take. I assist my clients in clarifying their thoughts, feelings, perceptions and values, ultimately resulting in positive changes in their relationships and lives.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
