Building a trusted therapeutic
relationship
is central to my approach: one that can become a powerful instrument for you to use in finding your way.
What brings you to think of talking to someone, may have to do with personal or work relationships, with past or present trauma, with serious losses, and/or may be psychological in nature. Inner or outer obstacles may be shutting down access to inner resources and clarity, and, possibly, hope. Here, a safe therapeutic environment, where you are accompanied as you express the thoughts and feelings that occur to you about your situation, is needed. Unrushed, being accurately heard and responded to, you will gradually put together pieces of your own puzzle, leading to new insights and a sense of inner freedom.

I will help you get to the root of your problems, not simply treat your symptoms. This happens best in the safety of a trusted therapeutic

I have had the privilege of witnessing people undergo the slow, extremely subtle and remarkable journey of healing and self-transformation. This process of psychological growth is astoundingly complex, multilayered, circular and even mysteriously numinous in its unfolding. My philosophy as a therapist is primarily on core transformation rather than merely symptom management and needless to say, I strongly believe in the centrality of the therapeutic
relationship
as a significant healing agent. Moving towards our wholeness necessitates the courage to first move into the wounded parts that we all have as members of the human species.

I enjoy supporting people who are experiencing various challenges, including grief and loss, trauma,
relationship
difficulties, and life transitions. We often feel terrified to face our own emotional pain and get to know the parts of ourselves that are feeling helpless, hopeless, or disempowered. I believe that each of us has everything we need within ourselves to find healing and growth. It is my job to support you to connect to yourself and find that path within you. I utilize various techniques to help you cope with (and feel) difficult emotions, connect to your mind and body, and understand the impact of your past and present.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
