Is your child experiencing behavioral problems that interfere with school, family, or friendships? Is your
teen
distant, defiant or have mood swings? While facing challenges in childhood is a normal part of growing up, sometimes kids need additional help learning the skills needed to navigate big feelings, worries, upsetting and confusing events and the stressors of modern life. I offer kids an opportunity to learn and practice new skills, a safe space to explore big feelings and can help them learn to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a helpful way using creative, and fun approaches and evidence based practices

Because of my experience with a broad range of therapeutic approaches, including
adolescent
, adult, family and couples counseling, and brief and longer term therapy, I can provide expert care for the work you want to do.
Are you curious about how counseling can help you? I enjoy working with people who would like to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and of the relationships in their lives. We work collaboratively to identify your priorities and therapy goals -- and to explore internal conflicts that may be getting in your way. When you feel heard and understood, you can start to discover the many unrealized facets of yourself, learn self acceptance and find clarity and purpose. Together we find meaning and direction.

I believe that sometimes, we need a little help to touch ground long enough to hear the sound of our own voice, to gain insight, and to remember what it is that makes us feel truly alive. Therapy can be a mirror to see ourselves from a new angle, uncovering unconscious patterns, and seeing all of our parts from a new and accepting perspective. I work with pre-
teen
,
teen
, and adult clients with depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, or other psychological symptoms that leave them feeling alone or distressed, and in need of support.

Hi and welcome! I would like to offer my hand in your journey. Often, people seek therapy when they are in a crisis such as a challenge in marriage, infidelity, difficulty with an
adolescent

Sometimes people seek therapy when they need someone to help them reframe an issue or offer a different perspective. I value and respect each individual I work with. I work with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families using many different theoretical approaches tailored to match your unique needs and personality.

Life is about how we experience the world around us. The current landscape of the world has led to increased stress and isolation. I can offer support and teach skills to help navigate current struggles. These skills will help create a toolbox that can be used throughout the changes and challenges life brings. I believe we are most successful when we have self-awareness, that prior experiences have a great impact on how we view ourselves and how we function in our lives. I can help integrate difficult life experiences into current reality so you can achieve a more fulfilled and meaningful life.

I focus on working with romantic and platonic relationships, families coping with addiction, parents with
adolescent
or adult children, and individual teens, adults and elders.
Feeling isolated, unsure of your purpose, stressed in your relationships, or ashamed or confused about your thoughts, actions or feelings? You are not alone. Mental health, relationship conflict, social/economic stressors, and life in quarantine can all make it challenging to feel truly connected. But experiencing connection – whether with yourself, loved ones, pets, or the natural world – is the cornerstone to wellness, and it's worth the vulnerability it takes to get there. Together we'll explore how to support you in building connections and coping skills that nourish you and your relationships for the long term.

since group therapy out-performs individual therapy in research, i prioritize my schedule for
teen
therapy groups (some individual therapy on a case by case basis).
teens are the heart of my work at deep space. the
teen
experience can be overwhelming, confusing, and exciting all at the same time. both their internal and external climate is chock-full of newness, opportunities for growth, as well as potential pitfalls they can unintentionally fall into. they want guidance from a trusted adult outside of their circles who sees them accurately, speaks their language, and takes them on a journey of self-discovery to arm them for the real world. my rough-around-the-edges, direct approach seems to be well received by the teens i have/had the privilege of working with.

I'm honored to sit as co-navigator on your journey and support you unconditionally through overwhelming times of change and struggle. Healing is hard and let's face it, it hurts. I believe having intentional support for the healing process is essential and that's why I'm here. I focus primarily on resolution and recovery from PTSD, complex PTSD, and intergenerational trauma patterns, targeting the many ways that hurts and betrayals leave their mark on our hearts and nervous system, interrupting connection to self and others. If you're ready I'll be there with you, step by step.

I believe that everyone has innate wisdom and healing qualities within themselves, and that my task as a therapist is to act as a guide to help you access those parts of yourself and to co-create a way of living that feels authentic and empowering. I practice therapy from a systemic and relational lens, which means that I recognize that we are all connected to each other and the life that exists around us, and that we exist in a variety of spaces that are impacted by systems such as white supremacy, transmisogyny, and capitalism.

As a clinical psychologist trained as an integrationist, I enjoy working with people from a holistic perspective. I believe it is important to consider not only what is going on in the present, but also what has happened developmentally, biologically, interpersonally, and cognitively. In addition to conceptualizing our experiences as people from a systems perspective, I conduct individual, group, and family therapy using a DBT-informed frame of practice. What this means is that change comes about by learning new behaviors in a variety of contexts while balancing the reality of a person's situation and skill level with acceptance.

I help clients with many issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family conflict, and addiction issues. I think of my role as a collaborator and guide, working relationally with you to find solutions and foster well-being.

Feeling overwhelmed–personally, emotionally or relationally–can wear us down and leave us feeling stuck. And especially when you’re stuck, searching for resources for change and growth takes strength and guts! You’ve been hit hard by life. Your emotions are overwhelming at times. You’re frozen by indecision and self-doubt. You’re doing well in your career but you’re not being noticed or promoted because you can’t seem to make relationships work. You have trouble with trust and intimacy. You experience your world through the lens of negativity, hopelessness and pessimism. You know you’re childhood history of abuse, of being bullied or shamed has created the high degrees of anxiety you feel around people and fear of being judged. You know you need therapy though you know talking about your past has never helped, and yet you keep trying.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
