Are you or your child struggling with negative or difficult emotions? Have childhood challenges or a traumatic experience taken on a life of their own? Do you feel stuck and long to regain control of your life? I work with teens, adults, and families (ages 14+) to address these challenges and create lasting change. Many people find themselves overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, communication issues in families, ADHD, multi-cultural identity, parenting struggles, and perinatal mental health needs, and these struggles can make it hard to move forward. It doesn’t have to be this way—you can heal and find hope.

I currently offer telehealth services, but my long-term goal is to open a clinic in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Constantly overthinking, being overly critical of yourself & your body, feeling anxious & insecure yet masking it, overworking & overachieving, & fearing disappointing others is an exhausting way to live. Can you imagine if you weren't so driven to people-please, perfect, & perform for others & lived with an unshakeable belief that you are fundamentally enough? I'd love for you to feel that. If you are in a life transition, consider yourself a highly sensitive person, or are simply interested in personal development, I'm here for that too. Let's get to the roots of things, shift stuck patterns, & make transformation happen together!

In today’s world, where so much can feel overwhelming and uncertain, therapy offers a consistent base of support—a space to process, to feel less alone, and to simply be. I create a judgment-free and trauma-informed environment where people can feel safe to be themselves and explore their identities. My approach is rooted in existential-humanist and relational-cultural perspectives, which means I emphasize healthy relationship building, equity in the therapist–client connection, and attention to the systems and external influences that impact mental health.

I work with helpers: compassionate, driven people who do work that matters, but whose own wellbeing is often last on the list. Many of my clients work in helping professions (education, medicine, parenting, non-profits, activism, social work or therapy, etc.) and many just identify with the label of being a “helper.” Some issues that might come up include perfectionism, people pleasing, difficulty with boundaries, compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, and feeling overly responsible for everything and everyone. I also work often with grief and loss, and people experiencing spiritual/religious trauma and deconstruction.

My therapeutic approach is largely conversational, utilizing Rogerian and humanistic ideologies such as unconditional positive regard and a client-centered orientation. Through this method, I apply techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to explore unspoken thoughts and emotions that tend to get in the way of our everyday lives. I supplement with further evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing to address individual complexities in presentation.

Hi! I'm Josie and before I am a therapist, I am human, just like you. When I am not doing therapist things you will catch me being human with my pet pig and cats, or thrifting for goodies. I enjoy the little glimmers in life and hope to inspire you to do the same. It is my goal to work closely with you to structure therapy to be what you need. It is so important to connect with your therapist to build a trusting relationship. This will be our first step together.

FAQ - About Telehealth Therapy
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.
Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.
Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
