I limit my practice to clients wanting to integrate mindfulness approaches,
Somatic
Experiencing or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy into psychotherapy .
I can help you Awaken Your Best State, Relate Mindfully to Challenges, and Thrive across the journey that is life: 1) Awakening Your Best State -The quality of our lives is a reflection of our state (physiology, mood, focus, and self-talk). I can assist you to access your best states; 2) Relate Mindfully to Challenges-Approaching our challenges with mindfulness and playful curiosity brings balance and joy in our lives. 3) Thrive-The results of our life are based on what we do. I'm further developing a focus on
somatic
-based and experiental therapies to treat mood & anxiety disorders, trauma and chronic pain.
Suffering happens in isolation. The power of human connection and telling your story can be healing. I believe we're all incredibly resilient at our cores, though this can be overshadowed and challenged by expected and unexpected change, difficult events & trauma, and the subsequent wading & struggling through transition that inevitably follows. I can help you work through the hard parts. Expand awareness and understanding around destructive patterns and apply practices that improve your quality of life. You can manage really overwhelming feelings, reduce pain, deepen & enjoy relationships and even rediscover peace of mind.

Healing happens in relationship. The health of our relationship to ourselves, to the world around us, and to the people in our life is essential to our wellbeing. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected, stuck in patterns, at a crossroads, hitting a wall, desiring change or just needing nonjudgmental guidance. You don't have to do this alone. Prioritizing your healing is a powerful way we positively impact ourselves and others. Together we will create a supported container for whatever you bring in order to facilitate deep understanding and create workable sustainable solutions.

Trauma Healing – It may be hard to connect with one’s body after a traumatic experience, I like to use
Somatic
Interventions & Mindfulness to help rebuild that connection.
As a Professional Counselor Associate, I will use my skills and voice to help empower my clients. I look forward to a long career in the mental health field where my community members, especially people of color, veterans, women, and individuals needing a cheerleader and advocate in their corner, can receive the care that they deserve. I want to understand the whole person and hope that everyone will soon be able to see themselves for who they are and not by what society or their diagnosis tells them. Seeking mental health treatment is a big step and I want to celebrate each person’s journey.

Internal parts that hold these verbal and
somatic
stories can be triggered by reminders of the past, while also providing pathways of healing.
My apologies, however, my waitlist is currently closed. I will edit this profile when that changes. I especially enjoy working with individuals who have experienced "outsider status" and are on a journey to create a sense of belonging in their own way and style. Many of my patients are creatives who experience hindrances in connecting with their creative energies and seek ways to more fully nourish and honor these aspects of Self.

I am certified in
somatic
attachment therapy and am skilled in working with developmental trauma and re-traumatization in the context of chronic or life-limiting illness and loss.
My focus for the last 13 years has been in medical social work with an emphasis on serving older adults and their caregivers; The last 7 of which have been dedicated to supporting those affected by cancer. I am deeply committed to understanding how one’s story, through attachment, attunement and life experience informs one’s ability to cope with unforeseen changes and variables. I believe that how one "shows up" in relationship to self and others is usually related to one's limbic response to stress, typically imparted during one's formative years. I work with clients who feel "uprooted" by their life circumstance.

I focus on addressing underlying trauma and attachment injury through the use of
somatic
, emotionally focused, relational, and mindfulness based therapies based on presenting issues and desired outcomes.
Life can leave you feeling lonely, anxious, and depressed. But you don’t need to stay there. I invite you to inquire within. It's time to reconnect with the wisdom within you. Your body carries information that you haven't tapped into or perhaps don't yet have access to. I'm here to help you realize that the answers are already there. We might just need to shine some light on the shadows (things that have been to hard to look at). Acknowledging and integrating those parts that have been ignored or tucked away can lead to more authentic ways of showing up in your relationships with yourself, with others, and with the planet.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
