My primary focus is couple therapy. I am a trained Certified EFT Therapist. EFT stands for Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and is far and away the best treatment for couples. I have successfully treated couples who struggled with communication issues, infidelity, childhood trauma, attachment concerns, and emotional disconnect. As an EFT therapist I have worked with many couples in which one of the partners has ADHD. I also treat trauma using EMDR therapy with individuals and in the couple setting.

You’ve been holding it together for a long time, and it’s starting to wear on you. Maybe you’re feeling anxious, burned out, or just not like yourself. You’ve been managing a lot, and from the outside, things might even look fine. But inside, you’re tired. Stuck. Unsure what’s next, or what you really want.

Many people come to therapy hoping to feel better but real change often begins when we stop trying to fix what feels wrong and start listening more deeply to ourselves. Rather than focusing only on symptom relief, our work invites a fuller connection to your experience. When we meet what’s happening inside with connection, care and curiosity, something shifts. You begin to feel more grounded, more alive, and more in touch with who you truly are. Therapy with me is not about becoming someone else. It’s about creating space to understand yourself more fully and to grow into the life and relationships that feel most meaningful to you.

Have you recently experienced a traumatic event? Or become overwhelmed by the impact of an older, long enduring trauma? Are you feeling stuck in talk therapy, despite putting in a true effort? Unable to bridge the gap between what you know and what you feel? EMDR is that bridge. I often see clients who can talk in circles about what they ought to feel and what they ought to believe…but just can’t seem to make it stick. Trauma fragments our brain so that one part doesn’t know how to talk to the other part. “I know I’m not worthless, but part of me believes I’m worthless.”

I work with people across the lifespan. I specialize in working with trauma, parents and children, and couples. My approach to therapy is centered on you, the client. I rely on you to teach me about your life and tell me what it is you hope to change. We can then work together on understanding how symptoms have developed with particular attention on emotions, relationships, and your experiences. Understanding can then lead to clarity which in turn can lead to change and growth. In addition to therapy, I provide consultation to therapists with particular emphasis on Family Systems and Psychodynamic Theories.

Availability for EMDR Consultation for therapists-Waitlist currently for clients. You're doing the best you can, yet you still feel like you're walking through life on autopilot, just going through the motions. Maybe there's something recent or from your childhood that you've been avoiding & while not wanting to feel that pain now you're not feeling much of anything, even when you want to. You know what 'it' is that needs to be tended to & you finally feel ready, with the right support. Intensive EMDR essentially is having longer sessions for a shorter period of time to get symptom relief faster, so the past doesn't feel so present.

When I was in the 9th grade, I was one of two students from every class that were selected by their classmates to become Natural Helpers. We received training in the skills of active listening, mediation and problem-solving. Little did I know that this experience would lead me to where I am today, as a counselor and therapist for the last twenty four years. In my work in residential treatment, outpatient clinics and pain management practice, I have thoroughly loved getting to watch people of the ages 13 to 95 have epiphanies, adopt new perspectives, change unhelpful thought patterns, and begin to love and know themselves again.

My ideal clients are individuals, couples, and families who care deeply about their relationships but feel stuck in patterns they can’t shift alone. They may be navigating life transitions, communication breakdowns, or intergenerational dynamics that are resurfacing in new ways. Beneath the frustration, there’s often a desire for stronger connections, healthier patterns, and a deeper sense of authenticity. My clients are looking for a space that offers both practical tools and meaningful exploration—a place where their experiences are honored and where real change can begin.

I believe that the experiences we go through in life shape us, the people around us impact us, and I believe that the process of growing is a life long journey. I practice psychodynamic therapy informed by person centered ways of relating. That’s just a fancy way to say that I think your life impacts who you are, how you behave and feel, and that an empathetic, supportive relationship is the best place to work on the change you want to see.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Hood River?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
