I have experience with clients from various backgrounds including; children with severe behavioral and emotional disorders, adolescents and adults with chemical dependency issues, adults and seniors with severe and chronic mental illness, and people of all ages dealing with issues related to:
trauma
, loss, grief, divorce/separation, depression, anxiety, OCD, stress, abuse/neglect, codependency, etc.
I am a licensed clinical social worker who is dedicated to providing my clients with ethical, professional and confidential services. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in determining successful outcomes in treatment. This involves the client feeling safe and trusting of the therapist while he/she explores emotional vulnerabilities and painful thought processes. My hope is that you will experience me as someone who actively listens to you and works with you to develop effective problem-solving strategies. My approach to therapy is respectful, honest, client-centered and strengths based.

I posses over 25 years of experience in helping people of different backgrounds work through issues of depression, anxiety,
trauma
and other mental health disorders.
Well, here we are most of us recovering from a global pandemic, the monkey pox and now we must worry whether are children will be safe in their schools and whether to return to work or work from home. The decisions we must make for ourselves, and our families can be difficult and sometimes that can be very overwhelming. Life can be stressful; I know firsthand what it’s like to suffer and make sacrifices I wasn’t ready for. I too have issues; I would be lying to you if I told you otherwise. Sometimes it can feel as if we have no one to talk to and nobody who cares. Well, I care, and we can face through life’s issues together.

Trauma Recovery Queen LLC
MA
Trauma
Recovery Queen LLC makes a firm commitment to offer expertise to people who are struggling after experiencing
trauma
to find ways to recover and improve overall function. Conditions of
trauma
experiences vary due to proximity, intensity, and frequency. Critical incident exposure is when natural coping mechanisms of the brain and body become overwhelmed and therefore revert to a potentially damaging stress state required for survival. Options under such duress become limited to fight, flee, or freeze responses. Melissa Shockman, MA has a master’s level degree from George Fox University in Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy

People often ask why I work with people affected by
trauma
. Why? Because I am passionate about the lifelong impacts of undiagnosed and untreated

on a person’s life. I am also passionate about the resilience of people and their ability to heal when proper care is provided and barriers are removed.
Trauma
is treatable, and no one need be “stuck” with its long-term aftereffects. We can heal from
trauma
, and it would be a privilege to work with you on your healing journey. Finally, building safety, trust, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do in our work together. And you are always in the lead.

Currently doing virtual consults. Be sure to check out profiles for Mandy Curtis, who has immediate openings. I'm here to support individuals with
post-traumatic stress
, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and more. I really appreciate the complexity of personality and identity formation. My ideal client was raised with a slightly "messed up" childhood, which they laugh about but say they are "over it". But, they may be having some concerns in their current relationships and be asking themselves- why is this a pattern for me? This curiosity can lead to powerful transformations.

I am skilled in companioning individuals who are experiencing distress related to sexual violence, incidents of
trauma
, grief & loss, and life transitions.
Pain is part of the human experience. Rather than efforts of eliminating distress, I invite individuals to amplify their awareness of thoughts, sensations, and impulses that contribute to pain and suffering. This mindful practice, coupled with self-compassion, can mobilize healing, increase our ability to manage distress, and expand our resilience. Collaboratively, we will explore options for creating a meaningful life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
