I work non judgmentally with clients to examine/strengthen relationships.I work with individuals, couples and families to repair and rebuild relationships that are not functioning at their best. With the client, the current concern is examined then goals and steps toward change are developed.I feel a persons self esteem is often a key component to current concerns and difficulties being experienced, as such this is examined.I believe the child parent relationship is key to a child's development and self esteem. I work with the parent to create the strongest connection possible with their child.

I've been working with children, adolescents, and families for 25 years. As a parent myself, I'm familiar with the growing pains of raising a family. Each new day can be an adventure, whether we want it to be or not. I can assist you as you navigate the ups and downs of family life and parenting . I believe it's 'easier to build a child than to repair an adult.' Building a resilient, happy child begins at birth. Fostering resilience in your children through effective parenting and a supportive "village" is a gift they will have the rest of their lives.

With my client centered focus, I work hard to build a therapeutic relationship that creates a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental space for each client to be able to present themselves to their fullest potential. My priority is to guide and support each client in their journey to develop their own sense of self-love, confidence, and peace of mind and body. Some of the issues I work with are parenting support, parent -child relationship issues, family conflict, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues at home/school, emotional dysregulation/outburst, coping skills, life transitions, stress, teen violence and trauma.

I work with a wide array of clients experiencing challenges in their lives ranging from eating disorders to substance abuse to serious trauma. In my years of work specializing in children and parents contending with anger, anxiety, depression, foster-care, parenting struggles and divorce issues I have helped families find healing and recover fun in their relationships. Whether a person is seeking services because they realize their problems can improve and they want professional support or at the insistence of a concerned family member, therapy should be a place where you experience confidence that the situation will improve.

I work with clients across the lifespan and provide parent consultations when working with children/adolescents. I provide support for anxiety, behavioral challenges, depression, family conflict, grief and loss, life transitions, peer relationships, school issues, and trauma. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for any work we will do together. When you feel safe within the therapeutic relationship, that is when real healing or progress can occur. I work with individuals and family systems from a relational-cultural perspective and with a trauma-informed lens.

Are you confused? Exhausted? Scared? I can help. I have a unique understanding of unhealthy relationships and how they operate. Most relationships start out hopeful and happy. Many turn at some point and this is where confusion lives. My philosophy is simple...break down where it went wrong and rebuild from there. This takes a lot of work, and a lot of commitment, I won't sugar-coat...but it can be done. Or, perhaps you have issues with non-intimate relationships, maybe a parent , sibling, or child. Or maybe your child has conflicts with your ex. This too can be made healthier.

I firmly believe that each and every one of us does the best we can. I work with adults, teens, youth and families. I approach teens and youth just as I do adults, in a respectful, supportive, and understanding manner. I work to understand the root of the "problem," so healing may begin. I specialize in trauma, skills training, parent training, anxiety, and depression. For 12 years I worked at an inpatient setting with emotionally disturbed youth and their families. I have educated myself in a multitude of treatment modalities in order to meet each client where they are at.

I hold certificates in CBT trauma for children and adults, have worked with domestic violence groups, as well as participated in parenting groups and helped lead emotionally focused groups for children ages 5 to 12. I have also counseled couples through issues of trust, dysfunction, and infidelity. In the coming months I look to complete certificate programs in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, a trauma/PTSD focused protocol), geriatric populations and their unique issues and challenges, as well as refine my trauma skills by continuing in trauma focused interventions through CBT as well as art therapy.

I’m so glad you’re here! To put it simply, I know life can be really hard sometimes and I’m here to help you feel better. Maybe you’re navigating fertility issues, pregnancy, postpartum anxiety or depression, or parenting challenges. As a certified perinatal therapist and a parent myself, I’m here to help. Or maybe you’re experiencing a sexual concern. I know it can often feel like there’s nowhere to go to talk about issues with sexuality. As a sex therapist, I support those who want to process sexual trauma, reconnect with their sexuality, navigate sexual anxiety, address low sexual desire, or work through erectile dysfunction.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
