Are you confused? Exhausted? Scared? I can help. I have a unique understanding of unhealthy relationships and how they operate. Most relationships start out hopeful and happy. Many turn at some point and this is where confusion lives. My philosophy is simple...break down where it went wrong and rebuild from there. This takes a lot of work, and a lot of commitment, I won't sugar-coat...but it can be done. Or, perhaps you have issues with non-intimate relationships, maybe a parent, sibling, or child. Or maybe your child has conflicts with your ex. This too can be made healthier.

Trauma Recovery Queen LLC
MA
Trauma Recovery Queen LLC makes a firm commitment to offer expertise to people who are struggling after experiencing trauma to find ways to recover and improve overall function. Conditions of trauma experiences vary due to proximity, intensity, and frequency. Critical incident exposure is when natural coping mechanisms of the brain and body become overwhelmed and therefore revert to a potentially damaging stress state required for survival. Options under such duress become limited to fight, flee, or freeze responses. Melissa Shockman, MA has a master’s level degree from George Fox University in Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy

Currently doing virtual consults. Be sure to check out profiles for Mandy Curtis, who has immediate openings. I'm here to support individuals with post-traumatic stress, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and more. I really appreciate the complexity of personality and identity formation. My ideal client was raised with a slightly "messed up" childhood, which they laugh about but say they are "over it". But, they may be having some concerns in their current relationships and be asking themselves- why is this a pattern for me? This curiosity can lead to powerful transformations.

I have current openings and am doing in person and telehealth appointments. Have you found that the coping skills that used to work just seem to fall short? Do you want a safe and nonjudgmental space to be able to talk with someone? Do you struggle with not knowing who you are or what you want? I believe we all have the capacity to address our needs and make positive changes towards our goals regardless of what we have been through in the past. We are able to access our own wisdom and truth when we feel safe and heard. I would love to provide that space and presence for you to share, grow, and heal.

When there is a feeling of disconnect between yourself and the world or with those in your life, it can be lonely and confusing. We alI feel stuck in our life at times around repeating old patterns, managing painful emotions or having critical thoughts of self and others. Maybe you are experiencing depression, life transitions or anxious thoughts. I aim to help clients explore what is causing them distress and identify new ways to overcome those obstacles. If you find yourself engaging in similar patterns and struggling to find effective ways to cope with anxiety or daily stressors, therapy may be a courageous first step to relief.

My Practice Is Accepting New Clients Now! I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. A person's mental health and many common mental disorders are shaped by various social, economic, and physical environments operating at different stages of life. Good mental health is integral to human health and well-being. Risk factors for many common mental disorders are heavily associated with social inequalities. I don't discriminate against anyone, and I am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

I believe that people seek counseling for a variety of reasons and when people are suffering from mental and or emotional pain, it can interfere with a persons overall wellbeing. Many times when a person is feeling and experiencing pain, this can make a person feel disconnected from others. I believe that when a person reaches out for help and support, this is the first step in the healing process. Through establishing and building a therapeutic relationship, based on congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding, I can help facilitate a place to foster healing, personal growth, change, and self discovery.

Accepting new clients for October and November. I offer services for individuals and couples. I love working with folks asking big questions- it may be about life, spirituality, values, etc- and getting into the gritty details of learning new skills and building sustainable habits to support our overall health. My clinical style involves partnering with clients to embark on a journey of self-exploration and self-discovery. I also tend to explore our relationships with others and society and client’s goals therein, as a part of a holistic approach to mental health.

How can I find a therapist in Hillsboro?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
