My Practice Is Taking New Clients Now! I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. A person's mental health and many common mental disorders are shaped by various social, economic, and physical environments operating at different stages of life. Good mental health is integral to human health and well-being. Risk factors for many common mental disorders are heavily associated with social inequalities. I don't discriminate against anyone, and I am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

People who seek me out generally identify with experiencing a history of trauma,
grief
, attachment wounds, or chronic stress that’s preventing them from living their best lives.
Is anxiety, depression, or chronic stress preventing you from feeling present in your life? Have you done a lot of therapy but continue to find yourself feeling stuck, hopeless, or full of dread? Are you struggling with chronic health conditions that don't seem to respond to traditional interventions or can't be explained by conventional medicine? My time as a healing professional has reinforced the awareness that trauma and chronic stress are stored not just in our minds, but in our bodies and nervous systems as well. That is often why talk therapy is just not enough.

Establishing a sense of wholeness and direction in our lives is often revealed once obstacles are known and cleared. My practice is largely informed by the personal experience of profound
grief
. Journeying through these difficult waters allows me to uniquely empathize and assist my clients through life struggles and losses.

I am skilled in companioning individuals who are experiencing distress related to sexual violence, incidents of trauma,
grief
&
loss
, and life transitions.
Pain is part of the human experience. Rather than efforts of eliminating distress, I invite individuals to amplify their awareness of thoughts, sensations, and impulses that contribute to pain and suffering. This mindful practice, coupled with self-compassion, can mobilize healing, increase our ability to manage distress, and expand our resilience. Collaboratively, we will explore options for creating a meaningful life.

The world can be a tough place, and almost all of us require support, a listening ear, and an open mind; especially for those who do not feel heard and understood. This is even harder for those who suffer from predispositions to mental health issues such as: depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, Autism, and etc. People require empathy, patience, understanding, and acceptance to grow. People want to be heard and understood; others want to feel accepted and valued; while there are those who may feel
loss
and don't know what it is that they need. This is where therapy becomes essential. To find someone who cares can be life changing.

I've worked with many youth and teens whose history of problems has roots in experiences such as abuse,
loss
(
death
of a family member or
loss
of family of origin through other circumstances), abandonment, witnessing domestic violence, and family changes such as divorce.
I firmly believe that each and every one of us does the best we can. I work with adults, teens, youth and families. I approach teens and youth just as I do adults, in a respectful, supportive, and understanding manner. I work to understand the root of the "problem," so healing may begin. I specialize in trauma, skills training, parent training, anxiety, and depression. For 12 years I worked at an inpatient setting with emotionally disturbed youth and their families. I have educated myself in a multitude of treatment modalities in order to meet each client where they are at.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
