Ally Ridling Accepting New Clients Now!

My Practice Is Accepting New Clients Now believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. A person's mental health and many common mental disorders are shaped by various social, economic, and physical environments operating at different stages of life. Good mental health is integral to human health and well-being. Risk factors for many common mental disorders are heavily associated with social inequalities. I don't discriminate against anyone, and I am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

I work with clients across the lifespan and provide parent consultations when working with children/adolescents. I provide support for anxiety, behavioral challenges, depression, family conflict, grief and loss, life transitions, peer relationships, school issues, and trauma. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for any work we will do together. When you feel safe within the therapeutic relationship, that is when real healing or progress can occur. I work with individuals and family systems from a relational-cultural perspective and with a trauma-informed lens.

I've been working with children, adolescents, and families for 25 years. As a parent myself, I'm familiar with the growing pains of raising a family. Each new day can be an adventure, whether we want it to be or not. I can assist you as you navigate the ups and downs of family life and parenting. I believe it's 'easier to build a child than to repair an adult.' Building a resilient, happy child begins at birth. Fostering resilience in your children through effective parenting and a supportive "village" is a gift they will have the rest of their lives.

I am excited to work with you and learn your stories while we go through the healing journey together. All of us do our best in any circumstance yet sometimes the tools that helped us through the darker times are the same things holding us back now. You can overcome anything, and I would love to help re-equip you with the tools you need to move forward.

I help people living with depression, self-identity struggles, grief, trauma and have experience working within LGBTQIA+ and ethical non-monogamous communities. The children I see have/are experiencing abuse, behavior concerns, and life stressors. My role as a therapist is to offer authentic and genuine reflections and to help strengthen your mental capacity and confidence to handle internal and external stressors. I believe we all have a story to tell, some intertwined with tragedy and challenges, and that our time together is for you to tell yours. Note: I don't work with insurance companies; only out of pocket.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
