If you are in a
relationship
with someone with these tendency, or you at least wonder if, it's important you seek help from someone who understands the subtleties of these behaviors.
Are you confused? Exhausted? Scared? I can help. I have a unique understanding of unhealthy relationships and how they operate. Most relationships start out hopeful and happy. Many turn at some point and this is where confusion lives. My philosophy is simple...break down where it went wrong and rebuild from there. This takes a lot of work, and a lot of commitment, I won't sugar-coat...but it can be done. Or, perhaps you have issues with non-intimate relationships, maybe a parent, sibling, or child. Or maybe your child has conflicts with your ex. This too can be made healthier.

I am not currently accepting new clients. I offer services for individuals,
couples
, and family therapy with adult family members (no youth services provided). I love working with folks asking big questions- it may be about life, spirituality, values, etc- and getting into the gritty details of learning new skills and building sustainable habits to support our overall health. My clinical style involves partnering with clients to embark on a journey of self-exploration and self-discovery. I also tend to explore our relationships with others and society and client’s goals therein, as a part of a holistic approach to mental health.

Individual adults (18+) who are committed to self exploration, challenging past patterns, and growth tend to enjoy my approach. My practice focuses on adults with symptoms of depression and/or anxiety that may stem from: lack of identity development (who am I?); adjusting to life changes–such as, going to college, career challenges, coming out, partnering/divorce, death of a loved one, mid-life crisis, retirement, empty nest;
relationship
conflicts–work or personal; past trauma; poor attachment to childhood caregivers; or having a marginalized identity (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, immigrants, etc.).

Trauma Recovery Queen LLC

Creating safe conversations with people who have been exposed to trauma that struggle with feelings of worthlessness, face
relationship
challenges, and find it difficult to stay. Conditions of trauma experiences vary due to proximity, intensity, and frequency. Critical incident exposure is when natural coping mechanisms of the brain and body become overwhelmed and therefore revert to a potentially damaging stress state required for survival. Options under such duress become limited to fight, flee, or freeze responses. Melissa Shockman, MA has a master’s level degree from George Fox University in Marriage,

I primarily use Emotionally Focused
Couples
Therapy (EFT) which is a highly researched and effective treatment focusing on the emotionaI bonds between partners.
When we have healthy relationships with those that are important to us, life tends to run more smoothly. When this is not the case our lives can feel out of control and we can become anxious, frustrated, angry or depressed.
I enjoy working with
couples
as they work to create and maintain healthy and fulfilling relationships. I also work with individuals as they struggle with many of life's concerns and difficulties. I always consider a clients family of origin experiences to discover possible connections in their way of dealing with difficulties in the present.

When there is a feeling of disconnect between yourself and the world or with those in your life, it can be lonely and confusing. We alI feel stuck in our life at times around repeating old patterns, managing painful emotions or having critical thoughts of self and others. Maybe you are experiencing depression, life transitions or anxious thoughts. I aim to help clients explore what is causing them distress and identify new ways to overcome those obstacles. The sorrows and stresses of this world can make us feel disconnected from ourselves and how God purposed us to live. Problems loom when we are turned inward and do not know how to navigate the complexities of our heart. I want to be a loving, truth-centered ally on your walk so you do not feel alone and in the dark. I love walking with adult women through deep valleys as they wrestle with life transitions, trauma,
relationship
issues, and what it practically means to be a follower of Christ. I Am Accepting New Clients Now! My practice also offers Medication Management with a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
