My practice is grounded in a variety of evidence-based tools and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems.
Most of my work is with children, teenagers, adults/couples and families. I bring a wealth of experience in addressing family dynamics, school-related concerns, and crisis situations. My training in family systems helps me understand and navigate the complexities of family or couple interactions, while my work with school issues and crisis management equips me to provide targeted support when you need it most.

I draw from an extensive array of theories including but not limited to the following: Psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, CBT, and mindfulness.
We’d be a good fit if you’d like to: Change your relationship to your thoughts and past experience, identify negative thinking patterns, explore and identify learned conditioned patterns from early childhood that might not be serving you, challenge inner self-critic, learn to set boundaries, and access more awareness and compassion.

I have experience in the areas of attachment-based treatment, foster and adoptive family therapy, CBT, and a play-based, developmental approach to working with neurodiverse children.
Do you sometimes feel lonely, frustrated, or unsure about how to parent your child (neurotypical, neurodiverse, highly sensitive, biological, foster, adopted, step-child or inner child)? Has your child received a recent diagnosis and you are wondering what it means and how to start helping them? Is your family experiencing high parental conflict or has been through a recent life transition and needs guidance and support? Or, perhaps, raising your child has caused you to re-examine your own childhood and relationships with members of your family of origin? If so, I would love to be on your "team".

Using a combination of positive and cognitive theoretical frameworks, I help clients navigate change and overcome the obstacles to living a meaningful life.
Are you experiencing a life transition (divorce, empty nest, menopause, bored with your job, retirement)? Feeling stagnant in general? Do you know there is something more for you ‘out there?' Major life transitions can feel challenging and times of change can be disorienting, scary. You may be questioning whether or not you can successfully navigate the changes you are facing. Depending on your situation, you may feel helpless, hopeless, sad, and/or angry. But there is hope, you are resilient, you can do this! I believe that we all have the power within us to create positive change and transformation.

Nearly everyone, at some point in their lives, experiences feelings of depression, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck. Whether these feelings are the result of childhood experiences or current circumstances, meaningful change can come from counseling. I believe everyone can benefit from counseling, whether you're struggling with intense emotions that you don't know how to handle, or are simply struggling with making a life decision.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
