I am passionate about the mindfulness-based practice and internal family systems .
When did you last feel so alive that you let yourself slide across the floor in socks, carefree and tune deaf, belting out your favorite song? Maybe it's been a while, and I bet you miss it. Sometimes the criticisms from others-- and ourselves-- burn us out. Perhaps you're searching for something that will help you find your authentic self again. Therapy can help. It's nothing short of a tragedy when life crushes our playful, imaginative inner child. Still, time and time again, I have seen people revitalize their zest for life through therapy. The best way to reach out is through email.

I primarily utilize client-centered and IFS therapy.
I believe that the capacity to heal, grow, change, and navigate challenges is inherent in each of us. I partner with individuals to help bring forward and foster that capacity, with the ultimate aim of living a meaningful, joyful, and fulfilled life. My approach is person-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed. I work to understand your story, your world-view, and your unique set of strengths, skills, and values. I look at mental health symptomology from the perspective of - what life experiences caused this, rather than - what’s wrong with you? I believe that at our core, we are each fundamentally good.

My clinical resources include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, IFS , ACT, Self-Esteem, existential therapy, trauma informed approaches, and the Grief Recovery Method.
All of us experience some confusion, anxiety, sadness, or conflict periodically, but if daily life becomes characterized by those feelings, something about life is out of balance. Do you feel stuck in a relationship or job, or troubled with negative, or fearful thoughts that won't go away? Sometimes we can loose a sense of hopefulness and pleasure about life. Perhaps we experienced a recent or far distant loss that left us floundering in sadness and grief. Maybe we have become weary searching for spiritual fulfillment, yet finding most ideas of a higher power to be disheartening or unbelievable.

My approach is client-centered and integrative and includes techniques from mindfulness-based awareness, CBT, Internal Family Systems , DBT, and EMDR among others.
Hi! I believe everyone is capable of healing, growth and positive change. I bring compassion, humor and authenticity to our counseling relationship. My work reflects my values and is strengths-focused, trauma-informed, anti-racist, and LGBTQIA-affirming. During our most difficult times, we develop coping strategies that serve us and keep us safe. I work with people to examine which strategies still benefit them and which they want to adjust or let go. People often enter therapy caught in shame or the belief they are somehow broken. We can work together to find skills that benefit you and build on strengths you already possess.

Therapeutic approaches include narrative therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, IFS , and family systems .
Sometimes our thoughts, our feelings, and our circumstance can be hard to put together. When we try to connect with others, or we have no one to connect with, we’re left feeling misunderstood and lost. A memory that we have a hard time letting go of, a loss of energy, seemingly with no explanation behind it. Trauma, grief, loss. These burdens can build up over time. Having a partner as we journey through and process these experiences can be invaluable in finding peace within ourselves and our story.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
