I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, major life transitions, relationship issues, adolescent / teen issues & more.
NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Therapy can be challenging, but can also be deeply satisfying & transformative when you find the right match with someone you trust, and who brings out the best in you. As your therapist, my aim is to help you find greater happiness in your self, your life and your relationships. I believe that the way we think, feel and behave are intertwined, and often a change in just one of these areas can ripple into the others. I provide support for change, both big & small, with compassion, humor & non-judgmental positive regard.

My practice is currently FULL. It takes courage to seek help...for yourself or for your child/ teen . I recognize how influential parents are when it comes to the emotional lives of their kids. Therefore my approach often includes some work with you to help you understand your child/ teen 's behaviors and to identify the implicit emotional needs in what you may be seeing. Often these externalized behaviors require some attuned response from you which can assist your child to feel and function better, and make important adaptations to family/life situations.

I work with adolescent and adult clients in individual, couples & family therapy. My personal philosophy is that through human connection, we can foster the motivation needed to take brave steps toward seeing an old pattern through a new perspective to create positive change. I use a strengths-based approach & believe in the inherent wisdom of each individual. Therapy serves as a road map, illuminating the path so the client can make conscious choices. My attitude is one of respect and acceptance of each client's self-image and world-view allowing for the creation of a safe, therapeutic container.

Whether it's a death, a breakup/divorce, struggles in your relationship, parenting an adolescent , graduating high school, starting a new job, retiring; I can support you as you find your way through.
I believe that life transitions can be difficult and transformative for all of us. Struggling during these transitions is common. Often we get through these struggles using our inner strength and by relying on friends, family or other loved ones for support. There can be times; however, when our typical solutions to these life changes fall short, times when we are frustrated, feel stuck and are having difficulty finding a way forward. Those are the times when counseling may be helpful. I'm licensed in both North Carolina as a LCMHC and Oregon as a LPC.

(*practice currently full) All people want to be at peace in a complex and confusing world. Life throws pain our way and we struggle to understand why we are experiencing it and how to adapt. We all grapple at some point with failures, break-ups, confusing relationships, conflicts, insecurities, fears, losses and an entire host of questions life presses us to answer. We can be confused about something that happened or where we’re headed. There is no text book to make these answers easy. The Earth School is the hardest classroom we will ever sit in and we’re bound to stumble into some situations feeling overwhelmed and unprepared.

Pursuing therapy is a courageous choice. I believe therapy offers a supportive, non-judgmental, and inclusive space in which to explore your innate capacity for growth and healing. I support children, adults, and families with concerns related to eating disorders, trauma and dissociation, LGBTQ+ experiences, chronic illness/disability issues, anxiety, somatic concerns, and life transitions. My therapeutic relationships are most often marked by compassion, warmth, humor, and empathy, and my overall approach is collaborative and client-centered, embodied by intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive, and social justice-oriented values.

I work with people who feel unfulfilled in life or stuck, who might be feeling overly rigid, or feeling out of control, or just generally unhealthy, unhappy or uneasy. These feelings can show up in our relationships, with family, work-school, food, substances or with other behaviors. My approach to therapy is to provide a safe, compassionate and honest environment to help you come to an understanding of why this is happening, and guide you on the journey of healing, growth and change. I work to empower people with a new awareness and stronger ability to manage the challenges in life that bring us to seek therapy.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
