You will experience body-based trauma-sensitive modalities such as focused mindfulness , Brainspotting, therapeutic art projects, intentional compassion, and wilderness-based counseling sessions.
Do your past experiences, relationships, or losses have you feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed? Perhaps you find yourself unable to shake certain memories or move smoothly through difficult emotions. Many people cope by numbing out, disconnecting from themselves and others in their lives through substances, screens, or something else. Are you struggling to connect with loved ones in authentic and meaningful ways? Are you straying from your true north, struggling with self-esteem, communication, or behavioral challenges? Does your family feel like a place of harmony and strength, or like a minefield of insults or silence?

My professional training includes EMDR, family systems, DBT, mindfulness , and other therapeutic approaches.
Life is a balancing act: stress/pleasure, acceptance/empowerment, openness/boundaries, trust/self-protection. It can be tricky to manage at times for all of us. With presence and attunement, I help my clients to discover their own unique sense of balance. I help others discover innate strengths and gifts to gain insight and make meaningful changes in their lives. I approach my work with humor, humility, and gentleness to promote safety and honest communication in the therapy room. Although I am a cis-gendered white guy in his 30's, I support each and every person within the realities of their lived experience.

My work is heavily influenced by the following theoretical approaches: Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Mindfulness , and Existential Theory.
I believe that all people are wired for connection. We want to be at peace with ourselves, and we want to feel secure in our relationships. However, life experiences, and how we make sense of them, often get in our way. My work as a counselor is to help clients of all ages see themselves and their world more clearly, by cutting through the negative messaging and reconnecting with their wise self. This is done with an attitude of compassionate, even playful, curiosity, recognizing we are all figuring it out as we go.

I facilitate an 8-week Mindfulness -Based Stress Reduction clinic.
I work with a variety of adult clients. Most people who consult me are confronting anxiety, depression, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and marital problems. In assessing the type of problems, people present, I look at lifestyle, current coping mechanisms, how we think and perceive our problem, our personal histories and what strategies specifically people have used to address their concerns. The use of mindfulness , learning to be more present in the moment allows for reduced reactivity, new ways of coping, problem solving, and relating to others in ones environment. It can lead to healing and transformation.

Interventions include EMDR, CBT, IFS, and mindfulness /somatic approaches.
My therapy approach begins with you and where you are feeling stuck, at this moment. Oftentimes, you can feel tethered to the past, unsure about the future and not fully present in the now. I work with adults (18+) who are struggling with their shifting identities within their personal beliefs, their relationships and our adapting environment. I want to support you in building your understanding of your sense of self, explore your personal/professional boundaries and how that has impacted your relationships, learn your personal power of communication and work to have you be seen, heard and feeling safe in all areas of your life.

I have clinical training in a variety of modalities that can be adjusted and tailored to meet the pace and expectations the client has, including CBT, ACT, EMDR and Mindfulness .
Often by the time an individual is entering my office, they have become bogged down and overwhelmed by stress in their life. It is my goal to help quiet the mind (and the busy, stressful world) enough to get in touch with the heart and find true healing. I am a down-to-earth therapist - essentially just another being walking this path of life and trying to find fulfillment in it. I deeply value the time spent with clients as they navigate their lives, figuring out their stressors and their innermost needs that are not being addressed & being with folks as they seek a more centered, authentic and empowered life.

My psychology and counseling practice is the expansion of identities through awareness and compassion not just solving problems. Your journey has been one with twists and turns and taking the first step to contact me may feel uncertain. Given life can feel like a maze, I make our initial contact straightforward as possible. For 25 years I’ve helped people clear the way to the freedom of their true nature in psychotherapy as well as hypnotherapy. I’ve worked as a crisis worker in ERs, to chief auditor for mental health services in Silicon Valley, to developing a successful counseling training center focused on mindfulness

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
