Couples therapy is my passion. Given the chaos and the way in which human relationships are being undermined in our world today, I feel this work is particularly needed. As far as human happiness goes, I see time and time again that it is the quality of a person’s relationships that makes it or breaks it. This is really the foundation of my couples therapy practice. More than ever, the world needs couples who have each other’s backs, and can bring empathy and intelligent action into the world.

I have a direct, compassionate and solution focused style and have 30 years experience in the field.

Everyone needs to talk about their personal concerns, emotions, and life challenges. At times, it is best to talk to someone who is not a friend or family member. I provide a place and process for these personal conversations. I will support you as you resolve old issues and emotional blocks, find new insights and choices, develop new ways of coping and acting. I am interactive and supportive. I work with individuals experiencing stress/anxiety/trauma; depression; childhood and relationship issues; life transitions - divorce, the death of someone important, illness, and transitions of midlife or becoming an elder; ADHD.

My desire is to come alongside those who are hurting and help them find hope, a sense of meaning and purpose, and healing. Regardless of whether I am treating an individual, couple or family, I believe that a meaningful, authentic relationship between the client and therapist is essential to the process of healing. My goal is to create a collaborative and safe space for us to enact change in your life and a space where you feel listened to.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, creative, and compassionate. My goal is to create a safe and warm space so each client feels comfortable sharing what's on their mind and in their heart. This may include diving into trauma, grief, and other challenging life experiences that prevent a person from feeling at peace and operating at their highest potential. The philosophy that guides my work is that everyone has the inner wisdom needed to thrive. My role is to help clients access this inner wisdom so they can heal, grow and live the fulfilling life they are seeking.

The office is in a 1930's Cape Cod style house...inviting & comfortable. With warmth and character. David is unusually relational and "real." Sessions are 60, 75 or 90 minutes rather than 50.

My approach to helping youth and teens overcome the symptoms they are experiencing begins with teaching them how to identify and express emotions. I utilize tools from Violet Oaklander’s work to teach youth how to express themselves, which leads to a greater understanding of what they are feeling in the moment. The follow-on effect is greater emotional regulation and communication of their needs. I help youth regulate their emotions by teaching mindfulness. Through mindfulness and focusing on the present moment, youth and teens feel relief from anticipatory anxiety, and depression from events in the past.

I am interested in working with people who are feeling stuck in areas of their life and are ready to make changes, yet need guidance in doing so. I am skilled in relating with and attuning to people, helping them to feel seen and understood. With this gained perspective I enjoy collaborating with individuals, working together to come up with their next best steps in a way that is empowered and easeful. I feel it is important to check in along the way and determine if more or different support is needed throughout the process. I want the client to feel that they are fully seen, cared for, and supported during our time together.

Currently accepting limited new clients for telehealth in Missouri and Oregon. I specialize in the areas of depression, anxiety, dealing with change, difficult life experiences, relationship issues, ENM/polyamory, and exploring existence/spirituality. I am Queer welcoming and ENM/polyamory/nontraditional relationship experienced. I see things through a trauma and attachment lens and work with ages 18+. I believe firmly in the power of radical acceptance. Whatever the experience may be...noticing, accepting, expressing, and finding true choice helps us get underneath the symptoms to facilitate true growth and empowerment.
