I provide a variety of counseling techniques such as play therapy , cognitive behavioral therapy, parenting strategies, family counseling, and sandtray therapy.
I am currently seeing older children (10 and up), adolescents, and adults for therapy. I am currently not accepting couples for therapy. I believe all individuals have strengths and the capacity to meet their full potential. My main approach is to provide a safe and secure environment for clients to process feelings and learn to manage emotions and behaviors. I incorporate play , art, sandtray, and symbolism to aid in the therapeutic process. My therapy dog, Daisy, is present one day a week and is used for animal assisted therapy. Please feel free to email me to discuss getting started with therapy.

I specialize in working with young children (4 - 10 yrs) and their parents using psychodynamic play therapy methods and principles.
I believe that wisdom comes through mindful self-reflection in a hope-filled space. Children and adults express themselves most authentically when given the freedom to play with ideas and explore their internal world through symbols and stories.

I use play therapy with children and expressive therapy with teens and adults.
I help people living with depression, self-identity struggles, grief, trauma and have experience working within LGBTQIA+ and ethical non-monogamous communities. The children I see have/are experiencing abuse, behavior concerns, and life stressors. My role as a therapist is to offer authentic and genuine reflections and to help strengthen your mental capacity and confidence to handle internal and external stressors. I believe we all have a story to tell, some intertwined with tragedy and challenges, and that our time together is for you to tell yours. Note: I don't work with insurance companies; only out of pocket.

PCIT teaches parents play therapy skills and behavior therapy skills that are nurturing and effective.
My passion is supporting parents! Are you exhausted from your child’s emotional meltdowns and refusals to do what you asked? Are you embarrassed by their public tantrums? I understand because I’ve been there myself. If your child refuses to follow directions, hits, bites, throws things, struggles with attention or is disruptive at school, won't sit still at mealtimes, or refuses to go bed time, I can help with Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Adoptive, foster and kinship families can especially benefit. Affirmative care is provided for LGBTQIA+ families. Your family constellation is understood, accepted, and celebrated.

Parent Support for Child Disruptive Behavior. We teach parents play therapy skills and behavior therapy skills for children ages 1-10 so they can dissolve tantrums quickly and help their children manage impulses and respond to instructions quickly. These strategies come from Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and PC-Care, two protocols researched at UC Davis Children’s Hospital and shown to be nurturing and effective. The CDC has even recommended PCIT for children under 6 with ADHD before trying medication. Let’s work together to bring peace and warmth back to your home! Evening and weekend appointments available.

Some of my specialties include adults recovering from childhood abuse/neglect, understanding and resolving loss and grief, strengthening couples and marriage preparation, and child-centered play therapy .
Most folks can handle the ups and downs of life unless their closest relationships are in trouble. That's what brings people to me. With over two decades as facilitator of personal and relational growth in individuals, couples and families, I am psycho-dynamic (seek to 'peel back the layers') with individuals, helping them to become free from the emotional baggage of childhood. I offer a systems-oriention with couples and families along with some Gottman tools and Prepare and Enrich. I developed a therapeutic program for a children's home in CA and served as their therapist and staff trainer for 5 years.

These approaches include drama/ play therapy , psychodrama, art, guided imagery and sand tray.
My intention for you is to gently but dynamically create opportunities for growth and healing through flexible and creative alternatives to break through old patterns. I like to collaborate with motivated clients who are willing to work to change their lives. My goal is to help you discover your own solutions to your problems and concerns in an environment that is welcoming, empathetic and non-judgmental. I do that by carefully attending to your thoughts and feelings. Although I will offer specific "interventions" I believe that change occurs during therapy when there is strong motivation combined with the quality of our connection.

When working exclusively with children I use play therapy and sand tray.
I work non judgmentally with clients to examine/strengthen relationships.I work with individuals, couples and families to repair and rebuild relationships that are not functioning at their best. With the client, the current concern is examined then goals and steps toward change are developed.I feel a persons self esteem is often a key component to current concerns and difficulties being experienced, as such this is examined.I believe the child parent relationship is key to a child's development and self esteem. I work with the parent to create the strongest connection possible with their child.

Not accepting new clients. We all come with areas of weakness and struggle but change and development can come. When working with children change takes place through play . They do not have the same thinking and reasoning skills, but they can play and practice through play to identify and feel emotions. With teen, I encourage them to use their own thinking power to consider new viewpoints or lens that they see through. By adjust that lens, situation and struggles can be viewed and address with new insight.

Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
