I draw upon several therapeutic modalities including CBT, DBT , EMDR and Mindfulness.
I work to help people find greater meaning, clarity and purpose - especially at important crossroads of change. Our view of self can be altered through past trauma, divorce, relocation, loss, illness, and new opportunities for growth can be embraced. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and past trauma can lower motivation and activate old ways that no longer serve you today.

I use many modalities such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy, CBT, DBT , Mindfulness, Play Therapy, and a neuropsychological approach to understand how stress is affecting them physically.
Trauma, grief, divorce, troubled personal & family relationships - any of these can cause anxiety, depression, addiction, a need to isolate, or a sense of overwhelm and feeling that it's all too much. Being able to identify how we interact and cope in relationships allows us to understand our thoughts and feelings about ourselves and the world in general, and is a key to finding out how to move forward with self-empowerment, while building self-esteem. Together, we identify and learn how to use healthy boundaries, change behaviors based on new, healthy thoughts and beliefs, and develop more fulfilling relationships.

Since no two people are the same, no treatment should look the same. I believe in individualizing the counseling experience to the client and their unique needs. Thus, I practice with a trans-theoretical model or across theories. I take into account your readiness for change, your strengths, and your developmental level to create a working relationship that allows for growth and resilience building. Some approaches I have utilized in the past include Wellness Based Counseling, EcoWellness/ EcoTherapy, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Existential Therapy.

I center a lot of my work using evidence-based interventions such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT ), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Systems Theory.
I believe that therapy involves combining multiple systems and environments to create who we are today. I see the people I work with through a trauma-informed lens and take their person-in-environment perspective to strengthen and encourage their personal growth.

I specialize in a variety of modalities including MI, CBT, ACT, DBT , and solution-focused perspectives, all with a trauma-informed lens.
Currently doing virtual consults. Be sure to check out profiles for Mandy Curtis, who has immediate openings. I'm here to support individuals with post-traumatic stress, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and more. I really appreciate the complexity of personality and identity formation. My ideal client was raised with a slightly "messed up" childhood, which they laugh about but say they are "over it". But, they may be having some concerns in their current relationships and be asking themselves- why is this a pattern for me? This curiosity can lead to powerful transformations.

I firmly believe that growth has two paths. To truly flourish, one must balance a desire for change with a true willingness to accept oneselve for who you are. A treatment that embraces this idea is Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT ), and it's the core philosophy I use with my patients every day. In treatment, DBT concepts focus on changing things that are getting in the way of living the life you want, while accepting yourself unconditionally. The focus is to develop a life worth living. My program offers a full finality DBT which includes individual therapy, group skills training, and phone consultation.

As a clinical psychologist trained as an integrationist, I enjoy working with people from a holistic perspective. I believe it is important to consider not only what is going on in the present, but also what has happened developmentally, biologically, interpersonally, and cognitively. In addition to conceptualizing our experiences as people from a systems perspective, I conduct individual, group, and family therapy using a DBT -informed frame of practice. What this means is that change comes about by learning new behaviors in a variety of contexts while balancing the reality of a person's situation and skill level with acceptance.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
