I work from an attachment-based model of therapy with all couples and pre-marital couples .
Gottman Method, Level 3 trained. It takes courage and vulnerability to take the initial step to come into counseling. I believe people seek counseling because they want something to be different in their lives, and I think the client can make those changes happen. In the counseling process, clients can be helped to understand themselves better, set personal goals, and be supported in development. I aspire to meet you wherever you are in your life journey, and I hope that you will feel valued, heard, and understood through our work together.

I believe healing happens in relationship , and during therapy we are able to learn, explore, heal, and practice who and how we want to be.
I provide counseling focused on transformation. My practice is grounded in wonder and awe, and is informed by the latest neurobiology. Together we will learn about how your body/mind/spirit work and then collaborate with your nervous system to advance changes you are seeking. My work is trauma-informed, anti-racist, queer/trans affirming, fat/body positive, embraces diversity of neurotypes, economic experiences, and abilities. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to promote cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral transformation and unburden anxious, fear, and/or critical parts.

My purpose is to build a meaningful & supportive relationship with you.
Are you struggling? The things we wrestle below the surface are difficult to put into words. Feeling sad? disconnected? angry? You may have felt this way your whole life, or this could be a recent change. Please know you are not alone. Relationships are hard; life is complicated, and it's normal to go through periods of darkness & joy. It's also normal to feel like you're somewhere in between. Talking or thinking about these thoughts and feelings can be too difficult, so we occupy ourselves and find ways to cope. -There's an elephant here, let us deal with this elephant now.

We each have our own unique life story but the one desire we share is to be happy. Too often our happiness is buried beneath traumas and unhealthy relationships.I believe that one of the most important aspects of the process of change is rooted in the working relationship between the psychotherapist and the client. There are many different methods I may use to help my clients overcome the problems they wish to address. My approach is relaxed, down to earth, honest and direct. I value authenticity in my therapeutic relationships and I have an appreciation for spirituality. I look forward to meeting you where you are.

We can learn from our therapy relationship “in the moment” to learn and apply these important lessons;

Research shows the therapeutic relationship is a statistically significant factor in positive outcomes.
I work with all individuals. That includes individuals with diverse ages, races, genders, sexualities, religions, political stances, educations, living environments, relationships, histories and socioeconomic statuses. I use an eclectic theoretical approach to treatment interventions, starting where you are at and moving toward identified treatment goals with consideration of best practices, which are research based with positive outcomes. After the initial diagnostic assessment; talk, play and creative interventions are utilized. I welcome feedback to ensure our therapeutic alliance and treatment processes are meeting your expectations. If given permission and clinically indicated, I coordinate care and consult with other treating professionals.

areas of interest include but are not limited to relationship issues, grief, trauma, life transitions, vocational stress, and emotional dysregulation.
I strongly value the unique intersectionality of each individual and/or collective identities and narratives. I am interested in focusing on and using the therapeutic relationship to explore, process, and re-build psychological patterns of self-worth and interpersonal dynamics that are underlying symptoms. I welcome collaboration in cultivating a curious and open space to empower growth in self-agency as well as growth in the capacity to reflect on the self, other, unconscious mind, and emotional experience. I believe this is vital for deepening self-compassion and integration of one’s various parts of self and history.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
