My foundation as a therapist is compassion focused , attachment based, and built on posttraumatic growth principals.
Being human isn't always easy, no matter how much we would like it to be. Sometimes we experience events and relationship challenges that shake us to the core, leave our emotions raw, and challenge everything that we think we believe about the world. One of my passions is helping individuals and couples to find coping strategies, process through the difficulties they are facing, and help them move towards healing and growth. I offer a compassionate space that honors all of the emotions and experiences my clients bring to the room, and allow them to process at their own pace, while encouraging them to face difficult things.

Through a social justice lens, I accompany people on their journey to a more grounded and liberated life by exploring how our intersecting identities and cultural experiences have led to the ways we are hurt, but also hold the keys to how we heal. For my clients, these layers of oppression may result in anxiety, depression, and racial identity concerns. We'll work together to process your experience, draw out your strengths, and support your goals. I love working with Asian American adults, and other POC, to connect the impacts of history, oppression, and culture on mental health and wellbeing.

Currently Not Taking Any New Clients. Trauma from the past can make us feel defeated. Yet, I believe the key is to create a safe space where anything can be shared that has tormented us. That way we can work in a therapeutic environment to help release the turbulent storms inside us and fill that space with bright soothing light. There is a way to conquer that which lies within us and I have confidence we can work towards a happier and healthier new life! I accept OHP (Oregon Health Plan).

If you reading this, it's likely you are not living or experiencing the life you want. How many of us have been there, feeling stuck, and despite our best efforts, end up back in the place we started? This creates feelings of despair, emotional pain, and worry that things will not change. How is it that our personal values that supposedly drive deeper meanings become lost or are sacrificed by pressures and demands of who we think we should be? First step in therapy is to create room for our ALL our thoughts and feelings and develop a new network of behaviors that allow us to be more present, more aware and to live more fully.

Have you ever noticed yourself feeling trapped in a situation, looking for something to help you escape and distract yourself? Or found yourself wanting to change a behavior or routine because that pattern no longer works for you? Maybe a little of both? We often find ourselves feeling stuck in life, wishing that we could change something about ourselves, our situation, or our environment. We look for solutions and sometimes find that we don’t have everything we need to make the change, that it’s not the right time, or that we don’t have as much control over the situation as we would like.

I work with adults 18+ that struggle with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, chronic pain, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, or really anyone interested in personal growth and self-exploration. I believe we all have an inner guide (whether you call this your gut/intuition, your higher self, or your inner wisdom) that can direct us toward healing, joy, and fulfillment if we allow it to. My goal is to help you access this inner guide and learn to really listen to it!

Accepting NEW Clients. Gottman Method, Level 3 trained. It takes courage and vulnerability to take the initial step to come into counseling. I believe people seek counseling because they want something to be different in their lives, and I think the client can make those changes happen. In the counseling process, clients can be helped to understand themselves better, set personal goals, and be supported in development. I aspire to meet you wherever you are in your life journey, and I hope that you will feel valued, heard, and understood through our work together.

I assist youth and families to build and maintain strong relationships. I teach parents skills to help their children both change challenging behavior and shift to a place of deep healing and connection. I address family of origin issues with parents allowing them to cope with their past, so that they can remain responsive, engaged and calm during stressful times. I assist in working through trauma coming from child abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and violence. I assist those going through stages of grief: helping them learn how to live beyond the loss.

I believe that every person begins healing when they are validated and fully seen without judgment. Once this foundation is set, I work with my clients to embrace their authentic selves and strive toward their full potential. Our work together may look like recognizing and challenging harmful internalized messages or thought patterns, accessing language to communicate needs better, exploring gender/sexuality, examining relationship dynamics that cause stress, getting anxiety and/or depression under control, treating trauma, differential diagnosis, or bringing clients in a couple closer to one another.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
