Is constant anxiety keeping you stuck in your head? Maybe you criticize yourself and feel like you should be handling life “better”, feeling as though you should be happier. Perhaps it is depression, or a feeling that things are “just ok” as a result of not knowing where you are going or why. Or have you experienced traumas which are impacting your present life and functioning? Having support and treatment tailored to you as an individual can make all of the difference. I work with people to create a life filled with peace, self-confidence, understanding, and growth. You don’t have to do it alone.

There is a solution. There is hope. And there is healing. Anxiety, depression, disordered eating, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, disruption in relationships, substance abuse, and on and on. These are curable, changeable, healable issues. When you go straight to the root of the issue, you can bring deep, lasting change. And we now know that the root of every mental health disorder (and many physical diseases as well) is some form of unresolved trauma. Trauma refers to any moment in our lives that we were unsafe in some way. Big or small, single events or years-long patterns-if we aren't able to process it, we store it.

Over the past 15 years I have learned that the change process is collaborative and requires a unified focus between therapist and client. In therapy, the most positive outcomes occur when we develop a healthy therapeutic relationship and focus on the same goals. Building this relationship allows both therapist and client to feel comfortable while cultivating positive change. I practice from a wellness perspective that states everything we experience throughout our lives is a natural part of our development as individuals. I will meet you wherever you may be emotionally knowing that your life's journey has brought you to this place.

I love to work collaboratively with my clients to come to a shared understanding of why they are seeking help and what to do about it. I want to work together to set goals for treatment to ensure that care will be the most tailored and effective for that individual. I meet clients where they are at to ensure that treatment is approachable and that there is communication every step of the way. I have a special interest in treating children, adolescents, and young adults as they navigate through the foundational stages of life, but I have knowledge and experience working with people throughout the lifespan.

Building confident kids with social skills, advocating for the disabled with skills for employment, and strengthening family communications are the pillars of my passion. Helping children to cope and confidence for happiness, health, and healing can be answered with Play Therapy. Beginning and maintaining employment for individuals with disabilities can be intimidating. I provide support to adults with strategies to navigate through employment. Also, the home environment is first place where healthy family communication should begin through family counseling.

Oppositional Defiance (ODD) Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for oppositional defiant disorder?

The treatment of Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) will involve multiple approaches designed to help both the youngster and their parents, sometimes including medication. A therapist will help a child learn ways to regulate their emotions, curb their impulsiveness, and counteract anger, defiance, and disruption, while showing parents ways to bring these lessons into their home. A technique designed for children with conditions like ODD, known as Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), may also be used. CPS addresses a child’s concerns and rewards appropriate responses while discouraging harsh punishment or criticism.

How does treatment for oppositional defiant disorder work?

Treatment for ODD addresses the issues underlying a child’s defiance and disruption, the emotional regulation and impulse-control skills they lack, and the way adults respond to them. ODD therapy is based on the idea that children with the disorder understand the difference between right and wrong, that they want to behave well, and that, with help, they can. By responding to the child with empathy instead of harsh criticism, ignoring nonviolent behaviors, and rewarding positive actions, a therapist, and the other adults in a child’s life, can help children improve their behavior.

How long does therapy for oppositional defiant disorder take?

Therapy for oppositional defiant disorder is not a short-term undertaking. Depending on the severity of a child’s symptoms, their age, the presence of other conditions like ADHD, anxiety or a mood disorder, and their family dynamic, it can take months before improvement is noted. The cooperation of parents and teachers is crucial, because the skills learned in therapy must be practiced in real-world situations, with all their potential triggers.

Does oppositional defiant disorder go away?

ODD can remit following treatment. ODD is often diagnosed in nursery school, and early intervention is essential for a positive prognosis. In two-thirds of children, according to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, symptoms resolve within three years.
