Hello! My name is Chelsea Lisk. I received a Bachelors degree in Psychoogy and a Masters degree in Counseling from Radford University. The meaning of healing and growth looks different for everyone. I am here to help guide you to being your best self and to help you figure out what your healing and growth journey will look like. I have a passion for helping people reach their full potential. I truly believe that healthy boundaries, healthy coping skills and a positive mindset can change a person’s life for the better.

Since youth, I wondered about human behavior and why people do what they do. To explore this interest further I took a class in comparative behavior and loved it. Since then I looked for opportunities to learn more about people, their actions, and their feelings while trying to find ways to help them improve their lives and feel better. I am lucky enough to be trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I used this advanced therapy process in California at the Anne Sippi Clinics in the service of those suffering severe adult psychopathology (mental health issues) early on in his career.

I have experience in treating those with anxiety disorders, and those in with sexual, internet, gaming, and alcohol and drug addictions.. I also have considerable experience in diagnosing and treating adult ADHD. As a licensed private pilot, I have successfully helped clients overcome a fear of flying.

I love working with adult clients in areas of identity, relationships, stress/anxiety, family of origin issues, and substance use. I also help traditional and non-traditional couples address issues of communication while fostering mutual love, care, trust, and respect and restoring harmony in relationships. I take a strengths-based, proactive approach to treatment to facilitate healing while building lifelong skills and a strong sense of self-worth.

I believe that feeling heard is a crucial step toward mental wellbeing. I prioritize meeting clients where they are and understanding how the world around each person impacts them. This inspires me to create an affirming and encouraging therapeutic environment for clients of any age or background, particularly LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients.

The Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care is a pastoral counseling center open to everyone. Alison has been the Chief Clinical Officer responsible for operations of community-based programs (Intensive In-home, Mental Health Skill-Building, and Crisis Stabilization) at our sister company, River City Comprehensive Counseling, since 2010.
