My name is Martha Gizachew, and I was born and raised in Ethiopia before moving to the United States at an early age. My upbringing and experiences called me to counseling, and I provide services in the state of Virginia in my development as a counselor with Virginia State University. My decision to practice in psychology was driven by first and secondhand experiences of discrimination, colorism, and other mistreatments of vulnerable populations. As a counselor, I am dedicated to being part of the solution for the common and uncommon effects of trauma, discrimination, religious persecution, and other situations of intolerance.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has specialized in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families for over 9 years. My background and experiences include work in the public school systems, child welfare systems (child protective services, adoptions, and foster care), private counseling center for adolescents and families, therapeutic recreational services, intensive in-home counseling, and an emergency diagnostic residential facility. I have experience working with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, grief & loss, divorce, single parenting, job loss, family conflict, stress, domestic violence, substance abuse, and crisis situations. Hello, my name is Casey Carroll. My passion for helping others started at an early age, and I always knew my career would reflect that. Being able to collaborate with my clients one-on-one through therapy is a special gift. Our client-to-therapist relationship is most important to me; I will strive to partner with my clients as an active change agent in their life. My hope for my clients is for them to feel comfortable with me and to reach the goals they are working towards to live a fulfilled life.

Since youth, I wondered about human behavior and why people do what they do. To explore this interest further I took a class in comparative behavior and loved it. Since then I looked for opportunities to learn more about people, their actions, and their feelings while trying to find ways to help them improve their lives and feel better. I am lucky enough to be trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I used this advanced therapy process in California at the Anne Sippi Clinics in the service of those suffering severe adult psychopathology (mental health issues) early on in his career.

I strive to create an environment to support children and adults, to improve their lives by having more enjoyable relationships. I like to provide my patients the required tools to succeed in life. I have loved to serve the community and use my natural ability to empathize. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in May 2015. Since my graduation, I have been performing psychological evaluations and therapy for patients of all ages, gathering a broad base of experience.

Alison has been the Chief Clinical Officer responsible for operations of community-based programs (Intensive In-home, Mental Health Skill-Building, and Crisis Stabilization) at our sister company, River City Comprehensive Counseling, since 2010. She has experience providing individual and group outpatient therapy in the mental health and substance use fields with older adolescents and adult populations.
